I recently purchased a Mossberg 500 on which the previous owner had installed the recoil reducing Knoxx Stock. I did some reading on the stock and watched some reviews of it. My personal experience was that I couldn’t bring the gun high enough or get low enough on the stock to sight effectively using the standard bead sight. Head to high and sighting was off. Head to tight and take the recoil on the cheek bone. (yes, I was careful not to lean forward into the part that moves) If I sighted over the barrel by an inch or so, like if I installed a red-dot of some kind, it wasn’t bad. The recoil to the shoulder was indeed reduced. Installed a raised sight could be an option.

So does anyone here use this stock without a raised sight of some kind? Do you use it with a raised sight? Is there something I’m missing? I don’t really want to add any other sights to the gun, but with the standard bead I don’t see how this stock is good for me. It’s like trying to sight right on top of the upper on an AR (and then have it kick a lot more than an AR). I want to like the stock, but I may end up putting the original stock back on.

On a side note I wrote an email to Mossberg asking what size bolt I should buy to reattach the original stock. (The previous owner had the stock, but couldn’t find the bolt.) I received an email today saying that they would be sending one free of charge. I’d heard that they might do as much, but wanted to give Mossberg a shout-out here for some quality customer service.

From what I've read here & elsewhere folk tend to go with some type of elevated sighting system with a Knox to avoid getting slapped by it. My .02 is put the original stock on and get a LimbSaver pad for it if you don't want to go for new sights.

I got a decent deal on the gun. The stock was just a bonus, so maybe I'll just sell the stock. Thanks for the input!

I usually prefer a bead on an HD gun, but I have GR sights on an 870 with a Blackhawk (Knoxx) stock. Works fine for me. The stock is the Gen II, with a Limbsaver pad. Once you get the hang of using the stock it performs as advertised.

NYShooter - I think with GR sights your line of sight above the bore is higher than with just a bead, so that makes sense. - Thanks!

Ultradoc - What sights do you use?

Ghost Ring sights are on the current Tactical. If that's the case for Ultradoc's 870, it again reinforces the use of higher sights with the Knoxx.
