Blasted WSP brass finish primers!! Installed another new firing pin to my Match Space Gun, took it yesterday to a Highpower rifle match, and before 44 rounds had been fired another firing pin tip is scalloped due to a pierced primer. :fire: Before you think I am running hot loads, I was using out to 300 yards was 69 Sierra 21.5 grains N135, Fed cases WSR (brass). This load chronographs at 2818 fps in my Krieger barreled Space Gun. I used a hotter load of 80 Sierra 23.5 grains N140 W/W cases and CCI 41 (mil spec primer) at 600 yards and never had a single pierced primer even though that scalloped firing pin tip creates a stress riser.

The good old nickel plated Winchester small rifle primers never ate up firing pins like these blasted brass finish primers; they are just too thin. I hate them. :barf: Glad my last sheaf of them is down to 100 primers. I am not going to use them again, I have enough CCI 41’s and a sheaf of CCI 400’s to last a good while and these primers shoot just fine.

Interesting pictures. I will have to find out how he took those primer photos. Some brands of primers really give much more blast than others.

Holliger's web page does not state whether he measured "old" WSR or "new" WSR, regardless, WSR are thinner than some other brands.

I have the better part of a sheaf of WSRs that I can't use, because the primers get pierced on starting loads. CCI BR4, on the other hand, shows absolutely no pressure signs whatsoever in the same gun at near-max loads.

WSRs are fine, I am sure, for bolt guns. Not semiauto.
