After pulling some .223/5.56 fmj bullets from LC cartridges, I noticed the similarity of the powder to BLC2.

Is it BLC2? If not what is it and can it be used interchangeably with BLC2?

Powder used in commercial loading may be similar, but not exactly like it's canister counterpart. FWIW... in 5.56mm, you are probably looking at H335 (or W748,) or, more correctly, it's commercial counterpart W844.

When I purchased some surplus powder, this what I got:

https://fedarm.com/product/wc-846-powder-for-rifle-like-bl-c2/

It is advertised as having a burn rate most similar to bl-2c, and in the "instructions" it says to work up loads using bl-c2 data but subtracting 10%.

It was advertised as being useable for both 5.56 and 7.62 with it having a burn rate more suitable for one than the other. If I remember right, wc-844 is a 5.56 powder akin to H-335, while wc-846 is a 7.62 powder akin to bl-c2, but I think I might have that reversed.

The only time I have damaged my rifle with reloads was with military brass and BL C2 I believe so be conservative

What weight were the bullets you pulled? Ball, tracer, etc?

It could be very similar to BL-C2, or H335, or some other St Marks MIl contract powder in-between. I have used BL-C for heavy bullet 5.56 loads, and it is useful in that application, but did not like hot weather. Got a little sporty above 90F or cooking a bit during slow fire in a hot chamber.

Picked up about ten pounds of surplus 846 in trade with a friend. Noticed the similarity in appearance as well and the data I found indicated 10-15% less than 748 loads................Stuff has proven to be very accurate in my Rock River, pressure indications are nil with my loads. 100% function in my mid length.

I ought to note that bullet weights I use do not exceed 62 gr.
