Sweet find! And in such great condition, for over a hundred year old gun!

Howdy

Very nice Triple Lock with the correct grips. I would jump on that instead of a 44 Mag any day of the week.

That is a late one, they were only manufactured until 1915. Probably sat in inventory for a little while before it shipped.

The grips are in very nice shape. Are they pencil labeled to the gun? On the underside of one of the grips, I forget which one. Sometimes very faded.

Flip it over and take another photo so we can see the other side.

This nickle plated Triple Lock shipped in October of 1915.

This one is a very early one, shipped in December of 1907. Well worn, hardly any finish left on it, but I got it for a terrific price. Chambers and bore are almost like new and it is a great shooter.

This target model has been refinished. it shipped in November of 1908.

Howdy Again

A spectacular example of a Triple Lock. Other than a slight turn ring and a tiny bit of wear at the muzzle it looks spotless.

So are you going to flip it over and show us the other side?

For what it's worth, there's really no such thing as a Triple Lock 1st Model.

Triple Lock was an alternative name for the 44 Hand Ejector 1st Model, also known as the New Century. The Triple Lock is so named for the unique third cylinder latch built into the yoke, frame, and barrel. The 44 Hand Ejector 1st Model was the only revolver S&W ever made with the unique third latch, when the 44 Hand Ejector 2nd Model came out the third latch had been eliminated.

Your photo shows the hardened insert of the third latch. Like this:

Did you take off the grips to see if they are numbered to the gun?

I'll bet they are.

I hope to find something in my LGS one day like that beauty before I leave this planet for good...

I've always wanted an old S&W 44 spl. Never had any interest in 44 mag. My problem is I don't buy used guns off the internet so that limits me to the local dealers. I never see these old 44's locally. Lots of 38's but no 44's.

You have yourself a nice one there. I'm truly envious. Don't let it set in the safe, shoot it.

I have never bought a gun off the internet and never will. If you want a nice old S&W 44 Special you have to burn some shoe leather. I have found a few at local guns shops and gun shows. But you have to keep looking. I looked for quite a while until I found this 44 Handejector 2nd Model.

This was the first 44 I found. Stumbled on it at a local gun show about ten years ago. I waited biting my lip while another guy looked at it, then I grabbed it as soon as he put it down. 44 Hand Ejector 3rd Model (Model of 1926). It left the factory in 1929, was carried by an officer during WWII. Got his holster with it. Refinished by somebody other than S&W (notice the nickel plated hammer and trigger). Original grips are so worn I took them off and replaced them with modern plastic imitations. Wouldn't sell it for the world.

Another gun show find. I had been looking for a Model 24 for a long time. Found this nice Model 624 from 1985. I took the Oversized Target grips off and replaced them with Magna grips, which I like much better.

Still have not found a Model 24, but this 44 Hand Ejector 4th Model Target from 1955 is even better. At least I think so.

They are out there, but you have to beat the bushes.
