I’m visiting a friend in Albuquerque and we’d like to do some shooting. Can anyone recommend a good shooting spot on BLM land? Off-road access is ok, we’ll be in a Jeep.

Not looking for a supervised shooting range but rather an open area to set up targets and shoot.

There is no BLM land in Bernalillo county where you can legally shoot (the one with Albuquerque) down 25 there is another county called Valencia probably 20 min south of Albuquerque on the other side of the Reservation I know guys go down there to shoot. I think you should just pay the 6 bucks and shoot at the city range it is supervised and I don't know why you would have aproblem with a supervised area.

Bernalillio county, New Mexico is not a good place to do any outdoor shooting.

It seemed like they were trying to outlaw shooting on all BLM land when I was there.

Not Bernalillio county, but about 2 hours south is Truth or Consequences city owned range. $5 a day , rifle range has concrete patio, shade, benches and berms every 100 yards out to 500 yards with a 650 yard gong. Also handgun and small bore ranges. I-25 exit 79. The range is located just off the west side of the Interstate along the service road which is a graded dirt road. No lines or waiting. You can drive to each berm to check your targets from the firing line patio. Best kept secret of shooting ranges in the south west till now.

Ojito National Wilderness. Take 550 past Bernalillo and turn off to the left just before San Ysidro. Make certain to get off the Zia rez. Clean up after yourselves and be careful not to shoot any stock.

Personally, though, I concur with the recommendation that you just shoot at the superb Albuquerque city range, or get yourself invited to the Zia or Del Norte clubs (very easy - they're always looking for new members).

Socorro also has a great city range, as well - generally totally empty.

Just got back. Thanks again for the replies. Found a great spot just south of Santa Fe, only took about 30 min to get there from Albuquerque.

I wish I had seen your post earlier. There are some great places around Santa Fe to shoot. If you are still in the area and want to shoot again, pm me. As a former Californian I'd be glad to help.
