Body Armor Vest for Civilians

Just something to put on when going to a indoor range. Too many mistakes going on there now.

Before I got into hunting, the only time I ever knew guns to have been pointed at me were at gun ranges, particularly pistol ranges.

I was taking a class in Texas when one of the instructors asked me why I thought I needed to have a ballistic vest. I replied that I thought of it as basic safety gear. He pointed out that none of the other students had on ballistic vests and I noted that he and several of the instructors did, to which he replied, "But we are instructors." Somehow, he could not seem to understand that if the situation was such that the instructors wore vests, that the students might consider it prudent as well.

Two days later, the guy next to me on the firing line had a ND. Go figure.

So how come Body Armor isn't tested with FMJ .357 Magnum? Come to think of it, I had never seen that type offered anywhere that sells ammo. .38 Special yes, but...
Any armor that's NIJ certified is tested to a specific, consistent standard that can be found here. https://www.ncjrs.gov/pdffiles1/nij/223054.pdf

So any legal issues with wearing body armor in my State of Illinois?
No, so long as you aren't committing a crime while wearing it.

One LEO in the City I live told me that it is illegal to wear armor... Yeah I know about asking the Police about laws...
Yup. He/she is just making **** up.

Looked at this thread because I was interested in the topic. I just deleted a set of posts that were quite inappropriate. Some folks were warned.
