Nice bolo, a very good restoration. You may already know this, but just in case... Be sure to inspect the bolt stop on the right side of the frame. The bolt stop is the only thing that keeps the bolt from flying back at you! They have been known to crack and if it is 90+ years old you have to wonder. I also have a c96 restoration and while I like shooting it, I am always a little pleased when I am still intact afterwards.

Don't worry, I took a look at the bolt stop, locking piece, and recoil spring. All is well.

Honestly, they don't just randomly come apart - keep in mind, the recoil spring has to be weak and/or you have to fire overpowered ammo to hurt the bolt stop.

Nice C96 ! My great Uncle brought this one back from Germany after WWII and I got it when he died a few years ago., (he was with the 6th armored div. 3rd army with Patton). Serial # says it was made in 1917-1918. I cleaned it up (pic is BEFORE cleanup) and had it inspected by a gunsmith and have fired about 100 rounds through it. They are very coll! as you well know. My stock is an imitation from ebay ($100.00) as my uncle didn't bring back the stock.

Very nice C96. I hope to add one to my collection once I become rich and famous.

P.S. Keep Tokarev ammo out of the C96 if you like your face, fingers and C96.

I agree, I only use FIOCCHI 7.63 MAUSER PISTOL CARTRIDGES Usually available online. I get mine from Ammo to go. (they are out of stock right now.) I've got about 200 rounds left, but since my gun is 91 years old, I let it sleep a lot.

I've got a 1930's era commercial Mauser C-96. They are wonderfull conversation pieces.

My stock is an imitation from ebay ($100.00) as my uncle didn't bring back the stock.

Reproduction stocks aren't legal to use on C96s, per the BATFE. :)

Any more videos PTK? I'd have to say those are the best on Youtube. One the the stock would be cool. BTY, awsome C-96. I do beleave that an M-30 will be my first Handgun.;)

Here is a C-96 that was likely made during WW1 and thus is a War Time Commercial. It has an unmarked "New Safety" and is totally matching. It's been in our family for a long time. The serial number is in the 275,xxx range. This picture was taken a long time ago.

I also have a pre-war Commercial that came from China and was made roughly between 1910 and 1912. Serial number is in the 119,xxx range and it has about 80% original finish remaining. The bore was been re-lined by the Chinese and it has the second type safety that precedes the "New Safety". It is also totally matching.

Pirate Movie

(This question is on-topic, I promise!)
Did anyone ever see a movie in which the main character is played by a fairly well-known actor.... Set in the 1920s or 30s. The good guys fight some sort of pirates but I don't remember where they were from ... they use small armored steamboats. Somebody in the movie uses - I am almost sure - a Mauser with a shoulder stock.

I thought that was the coolest gun in the world when I was a kid....
