Bolt-Action Blackout

I've developed an urge for a bolt-action .300 BLK rifle (to go along with my AR rifle and pistol in the caliber)...scoped with a 16-ish inch barrel. I have been researching both the Ruger and Savage offerings but haven't seen a live example of either at the last two big area shows. Any thoughts or wisdom on these two, or any others that fit the bill?

I've been tinkering with my .300 AAC CZ 527 for some years, but unfortunately they have discontinued this model:



The Nikon scope has also been discontinued, but I think the MDT chassis and the aftermarket bolt handle are both still cataloged.

These actions can be a little stiff to chamber, depending, but I think the only real negative for this rig is that the mags are expensive and the chassis mag release isn't fenced, so I remove the mag whenever I'm transporting the rifle to prevent dropping/losing. The single set trigger is pretty sweet.

I have a Ruger American Ranch in Blackout that I'm selling. Don't get me wrong, it's a great gun. But as it happens I'm left-handed and the gun doesn't work all that well for me. I like the gun a lot though.

I had a Ruger American ranch in 300blk that was a great little hunting rifle, but the scope got moved to something else and I rebarreled it to 221 fireball. Really want another, they are a great little compact rifle with the 16" barrel.

Really enjoy my Ruger Ranch with a can. Very quiet, and very accurate with the Makers bullets. Working on a subsonic cast load. Shoot the bolt gun more than the AR.

I had Ranch, liked the rifle didn't really care for the cartridge. Were I doing it again, I would probably go for a howa mini.

My Ranch with a can is amazingly silent with Subs. Super accurate also. Those rifles are a great deal.

I really like my Ruger Ranch. It's very accurate and has been used to take several deer but it's also an early one with the rotary mags. I may trade up to the Gen II next year to get AR mags.

I'd pick the savage so its easier to swap out to a better caliber when the urge subsides.

No complaints about my Ruger Ranch .300bo (AR mag version).
I don't shoot supressed, I just like the round. Recoil is minimal, good bullet selection. Even without a can .300bo subs are noticeably quieter with only a small change in POI at 100 yards vs supers.
Good accuracy compared to my .300bo AR & Mini-14 in .300bo.
Action is not the smoothest, got better with use but Ruger's three lug bolt and AR mags isn't the best. Good factory trigger, I've not had any need to lighten mine up but there's room to tweak if needed.
The Magpul mine came with would not allow the bolt to close on empty but all my other mags except for the aluminum mags with Magpul followers like D&H will not stop the bolt on empty. Okay, Fab Defense, Lancers are the ones I use most. Magpul follower can be rounded with a file to fix that.
Ruger just released the 'Gen II' Ranch line, not seen one in person but the stock does look better. Not sure what else has changed from the gen I.

CZ were running some good sales a few months ago on their 600 series after that recall they issued.

Savage quality can be hit or miss but they're one of the better 'bang for the buck' choices.

I really like m Ruger Ranch 300 BLK, especially after I upgraded to a Timney trigger. The new Gen II version looks even better.

I bought a Rem 700 BDM in 300 BLK. The barrel was stamped 1:7, but it turned out to be a 1:10 twist. Still shoots 190-220 bullets fairly well at 50, but they fall off at 100.
It has a strong preference for 110s.

Could have it reamed for 300 Ham'r if you reload. Then you'd have something that can throw the 150s fast enough to be accurate. That of course assumes you want to shoot supersonic.

I second the Timney trigger. i put mine in a Boyd’s stock and use an Sig 7.62 direct thread can. Stupid accurate and that Barnes 110 Tac TX is a great round.

I just bought a Ruger American Ranch In .300 BLK a couple of weeks ago. I really like the rifle and caliber. I shoot and handload supersonic ammo so far. The rifle is compact, lightweight, and handy.

The bolt movement was sticky when I first got it but has smoothed out nicely with use.

The Gen 2 rifle should be even better. I’d wait for it. Ruger announced the Gen 2s right after I bought mine.

i have ARs in 300 Blackout. I keep forgetting to put work the bolt to feed another round with the bolt action rifle.
