I had picked this book up when it had just come out in 2005. I was fortunate enough to have been visiting the forum where the author, Branko Bogdanovic, posted so I was actually ordering the day it came out. Re-arranging my bookshelf tonight and came across it, did a search here and didn't see any mention of it so I thought I'd throw out a little mention of it in case anyone was interested.

Pretty much this book is a complete guide to any Serbian and Yugo Mauser. 1880, 1884, 1908 carbine, Sniper Variant etc, etc. It gives background to the conflicts they were used in, developments of the rifles, changes, markings, serial numbers. The illustrations are well done, clear and concise. Pictures of issued cleaning kits, headstamps from common ammunition, pictures of arsenal markings, cyrillic alphabet, proof marks, manufacturers marking locations, crest styles. Even what bayonet is made to go with which model.

All and all it's almost like a master guide to these rifles. You can track down year, arsenal, and what it should or should not have compared to other models. What parts should be milled and stamped depending on year, what the coat of arms should look like...

All in all, I suggest picking up the book if you have one of these rifles, just to understand a little more behind it, and if you're interested in Mauser history it's a great book to give a little insight
