Bootlegging & Gunrunning

Folks have inquired so I will share just a bit.
Yep, I am a Rebel.

Now back in the day, and involved in another life as they say, I competed quite heavily. I did it for me, personal satisfaction, great folks I hung with, not to mention the Mentors & Elders. Had one helluva time we did.

Don’t bother to try to look me up, in that work and having to be low profile, my name is not on the books, another name "perhaps".

I’ve alluded to some matters that caused me to stop, okay; me and others flat out Rebelled about some matters as well. Someday I will share more of some of this, including a game I came up with.

Basically we played our own games, some were not sanctioned, and if some money changed hands, well hell, don’t tell me none of you folks never played poker, played golf, or when out bowling and money was never exchanged for winnings and scores.

Yep, I didn’t think so.

Well I had been thru that taking matters too serious and when I quit doing so, my mental game improved and my scores went way up.

Arkansas Children’s Hospital is – Miracles happen! Miracles still happen. I am a bit biased when it comes to ACH, and others in this Hospital Network. I have some experiences with St. Jude’s in Memphis, and Houston Medical...some others as well...

Angel One
had flown from AR, to TX, to pick up this child. I met this Child. Big blue eyes and such a smile “Is my Mommy okay? Did my dog make it?” She was not concerned with herself, like most kids she was more concerned about others. These damn kids …put it this way; there is a reason why Doctors, Nurses, and Staff have the attitudes so different from other Hospitals – the kids. You can feel this when you walk in the door; you are surrounded by this aurora.

ACH has if not THE best – for sure one of the finest Burn Centers in the Nation. Period!

Another unique feature, you do not worry about money, kids getting better is the main focus, don’t worry about the money, just get better, family and all. I know many private monies take care of matters. Still…

“I have to go to Texas sweetie, you get better, and I will see you when I get back”
“Okay…wait, the Angel saved me, take this with you to stay safe- please!”

Does not matter what anyone believes, interesting thing is many kids share seeing Angels and they share of how these Angels took care of them. This little girl shares she was awakened by an Angel, she was able to get Mom’s attention as the fire engulfed the house, and ….

Daddy was working off shore at the time.

Now I have been in serious competitions, I have had my serious fun. Me and my kind was raising money. Bootlegging & Gunrunning.

I had many folks I shot with as partners, part of my squad if you will, one was a lady, and I called her Mel, short for Melissa. Err…we had a lot of fun with folks with that little joke.

So Mel didn’t’ hesitate, nor did the others when this shoot was organized. “Nice Angel you got there”
“Yeah the child wanted me to wear it, I brought you one as well bought from down in the gift shop”.

I had met the Child’s father, he was there, and “I don’t know what to say”
“Hello sir, my name is Mel”
“You’re a girl!”
“Yeah you could say that, she gots all the right parts in all the right places” I piped up, “Mel being short for Melissa just more fun to surprise folks’
“I’ll say”
Did the fella good to get shocked and laugh.

“Folks been putting me on private planes and helicopters to commute between seeing my gals …I am overwhelmed I don’t’ know what to say”

I stuck a spatula in his hand, mentioned Mel and I preferred our burgers medium rare, and Mel grabbed his hand and led him out to the field and whispered to him what to say…

“Run ‘em”

And that we did.

“My burger is a bit done” I said with a grin.
“Yeah well, I got to watching you folks and damn, not into shotgun quite like you folks, what a sight to watch, you folks flat run some guns…”

Then he winced, and remembered, he no longer had a shotgun.

The child was finally at rest when I returned to ACH, them treatments in Burn Unit – well they take a lot out of a person.

I handed the Nurse the Gadsen Flag bandana - my/ our signature if you will that we wore- with the Angel pinned on it. Mel handed her a box, one of my medals from a World Shoot inside. We also had some Polaroid’s of the event, many with her daddy, and his new used shotgun of course.

“Tell the child we will check on her later, and oh, tell her – her Angel was with us as well”.

Doctor and Nurse called us over about a week later when we came to visit. Had to show me a picture on the wall, all the kids get to do pictures and display. Many of these end up in a Calendar ACH does for raising money.

Seems this Angel was wearing a Gadsen Flag bandana, medal around its neck and holding a shotgun.

Yeah you just kinda hug one another, grin, hug, wipe eyes…

When the child was better, risk of infection not quite the concern, Nurse pushed the wheelchair and we all went outside. Mel’s bandana was on the new puppy’s neck, another private concern had taken care of that.

Angel
- the puppy was named, daddy’s company while his ladies recovered.

I’m a Rebel, a Bootlegger, a Gunrunner – and damn proud of it.

Run ‘em
