This is an interesting knife in that it's new, is the first of two *American-made* Columbia Rivers (all prior ones were/are foreign-made), and it's the first of two CRKTs (the "Voodoo" and the "Wild Weasal") which are assisted-opening, a la Kershaw/Ken Onion and the newish SOG folders. Either can be had with plain edge or combo plain & serrated - I got the plain one.

It is really easy to open. I can't decide if I think it's ugly or pretty. But either way, I like it. It is very solid feeling; definitely on the heavy side of things, which can be good or bad depending on mission/use. It is expensive though (for a CRKT that is), but to me worth it being American made. One drawback is that it does NOT have the CRKT LAWK system, as an extra lock on the locking liner, like my M16 and other CRKTs.

and yet another CRKT

also today got a Desert Cruiser - I love this one. Furrin' made, but great lines, good feel, and made to work:

I'm not picking on you GGB, but the mechanism is supposedly a Fred Carter design, but Butch Vallotton actually developed the mechanism about the time Ken Onion was coming up with his. Butch had an earlier different assist back around 1997. So when folks say like Kershaw I want them to remember the most well known guy may not be the firstest.

Oh, and the CRKT AOs are made here in East Tennessee.

HSO - Are you at liberty to name the maker?

Thanks

John

me too!

I picked up the same knife as you, the CRKT Voodoo plain edge, at a gun show today. I was hoping to get a revolver, but my pistol purchase permit expired a few months ago, so I had to settle for a fine knife and some reloading gear. :) I paid $90, MSRP looks to be $129.99, but knifeworks.com has them for $76...so I dont' feel too bad. I've only had it a few hours, but carried it at work tonight, and it's a fine feeling blade. Nice solid feel, nifty mechanism (my first A.O. knife), and my second blade from CRKT.

I was torn between this one, and the Van Hoy RSL....it was about half the price, and a beautifully designed frame, but I figured this would be more sensible. Maybe I'll get that one next. :D

edit: shrpshn, found this in another thread in here;
United, who manufactures the "Outdoor Life" line of knives, has a manufacturing plant in Seveirville, Tenna - These were probably manufactured there.

It has also been reported that CRKT's new line of assisted openers, The Voodoo and the Wild Weasel, were manufactured for them by United in Seveirville.
