Well, I wanted a second Glock 34, but it was 4th on my list right now. Since July I have had a “be on the lookout” list of 4 guns at my LGS.
On my list I had:
Ruger Redhawk 5050 .45 Colt / .45 ACP
Ruger Redhawk 5059 8-shot .357 Magnum
Ruger Blackhawk.45 Convertible
Glock 34 Gen 3 (we can only get Gen 3s n CA)

Anyway, I have wanted a 2nd G34 for some time and in 10 days I will have a mate for one of my favorite handguns. I did want one of the revolvers first, but I am very happy to get the Glock.

It has surprised me that Ruger revolvers have been so hard to get. I think the only reason the Glock was available is because my LGS had some guns in reserve and perhaps threw me a bone for my weekly diligence in coming in to check on my list of desired handguns.
I am looking forward to bringing my new gun home in 10 days.

The G-4 Model 34 my EDC duty gun, the G-3 version is an excellent gun for sure! Congrats on finding one to fill the void.

Keep looking for the guns on your want list, they’ll pop up before you know it.

Now... if I could just find SPP somewhere o_O...

Stay safe.

Ruger revolvers have spiked in price on gunbroker, I'm seeing the .45 Redhawk go for nearly $1200, normal street price is like $850 as of a few years ago when I got mine.

What is your intended use for the Redhawk? Are you reloading .45 Colt for it? Intending to shoot .45 ACP from it? If you're looking to shoot just factory .45 ACP, I would skip it, factory .45 ACP sucks in the Redhawk, but handloads work real good, I'm using 5.5grains of Bullseye under a 225 grain lead bullet using a roll crimp and getting over 860 fps and it's accurate.

The Blackhawk will be more accurate with factory FMJ ammo.

I would not hesitate to look at the Taurus 692 7 shot .357/9mm revolver. The extra shot is not worth the extra size and 8 ounces that the Redhawk weighs.

I would reload for it. Thanks for the load recipe.

I have been considering the Blackhawk over the Redhawk in .45. Mostly because of people like yourself saying the accuracy in the Blackhawk is better. I have also considered just getting a .45 ACP cylinder for my New Vaquero and concentrating on buying the Redhawk 5059 .357 Magnum. I know the RedHawks are heavy but the weight will actually be a benefit as I have pretty bad arthritis in my right wrist. More weight, less felt recoil. I had not considered the Taurus. Interesting suggestion. I may look at this. Thank you.

The Redhawks are hefty, as are the Super Redhawks. (Mine are both 7.5” models.) With stout loads they’ll still rock back in your hand a good bit, but certainly not as sharply as lighter-weight revolvers will.

For whatever reasons the prices on the Redhawks in Ca have always been hovering at MSRP or above, you’ll be hard pressed to find a bargain on one at a retail outlet.

I wasn’t much of a Blackhawk fan for a long time. I have owned an old Vaquero 4 5/8” bright stainless for over 20 years, and a 6.5” Single Six .22/.22M for about 15, but I didn’t warm up to the Blackhawk until I got a flat top 5.5” .44 Spl. earlier this year.... followed by a 6.5” Bisley .32 H&R a few weeks ago.
Now I’m hooked.

Good luck with your quest!

Stay safe.

I shoot single actions in Cowboy Action Shooting but have never been a big SA fan. I like them, but I like DA revolvers more. I did own a Blackhawk years ago that I did truly like but gave it to a friend because he just lived that Blackhawk. After starting my quest for these RedHawks I have found that the idea of the Blackhawk convertible is growing on me.

For CAS I use an original Vaquero stainless 45 Colt 7.5” barrel and a New Vaquero .45 stainless with a 5.5” barrel. I have recently discovered that I can send my RNV to Ruger and they can fit a .45 ACP cylinder. I may try that to get my “convertible fix”.
