Box fed lever action

After staring at the mossberg tactical lever action for 10 minutes, i could probably see why a detachable box mag would be weird. Although, whoever mentioned the issue of a rimmed cart feeding in a box mag, also made me think of why it’s not “common” today as modern levers are concerned

It's uglier than homemade sin but I've considered getting the rimfire version strictly for its utility. It's threaded for a suppressor, can handle anything from Shorts to Long Rifles, is a manually operated repeater but faster than a boltgun with greater magazine capacity.

I know I will catch flak for this but I think the Winchester 1895 was one of the ugliest guns ever made.

Hey someguy2800... Here is some flak coming your way.. Just kidding, to each his own...

Seriously though, I have an original 1895 Winchester in 30-40 U.S. (Krag) made in 1913 with the optional Lyman 21 peep sight. At least to my eyes it is one of the coolest looking, most charismatic rifles there is, just dripping in nostalgia. It's also very cool to rack the action and see how comparatively modern the lever and action look and operate (or maybe it's just how excessively complicated it seems to be) compared to a more conventional lever gun. Never the less, I like it....

Now for the down side and in response to the OP's post, the location of the box magazine really interferes with the balance of the 1895 rifle when carried. Mine is the Sporting model with the short forearm and the shortest standard round barrel, I think its 22 inches. The rifle balances where the box mag is but it is very awkward to carry there. This is a natural single hand carry point for most convention lever guns and for the Savage 99 as well. You can't carry it with your hand under the forearm because it's too butt heavy so your only options are to sling it or carry it in two hands (i guess you could also march around the woods with it on your shoulder, hitting every tree branch). This may sound like a minor complaint but it really can be a bit annoying. Enough so that if I was shopping for my primary deer rifle back in the day I probably would have opted for a Savage 99, Marlin 1893 or Winchester 1894 instead. The 1895's box magazine did allow for the use of pointed bullets in a lever action which made possible the optional and ultra modern for the time 30-06 as well as the Krag..

Sorry guys, but I think the 1895 Winchester/Browning/Miroku in 30-40 Krag is retro cool. Especially with a Providence Tool Co., repro Lyman Model 21 receiver sight installed.
