Boxer Primed, what does that mean ? Will be starting to reload 45acp next week and I can buy some Magtech on sale for 16.00 here this weekend and thought about picking up a couple boxes to add to my small stash of brass I have, just don't know what boxer primed means. Thanks

Boxer versus Berdan - google can help you there - are two main different types of primers. The Boxer ones are easily reloadable, Berdan not so much

Thanks, I know about Berdan, just did not know what boxer was. Never to old to learn. Now all I need is for my conversion kit, dies, and bullets all show up when there supposed to.

Long story short, boxer primed means there is one flash hole at the bottom of the brass to push out the primer. Hence so you can reload it.

Berden primed use 2 holes and a different shaped anvil that is hard, although not impossible to reload if you don't mind reshaping the brass. Berden primed cases are popular with steel cased or Russian made ammo.

And if my aging memory serves, oddly enough Berdan which is popular in Europe was invented here in the USA and Boxer was a European invention?

Correct.

OP, sounds like you don't have a good reloading manual yet. You really, really need one. I'd also recommend The ABC's of Reloading to get you started off right with the basics. You definitely want to know what you're doing before lighting off a cartridge generating 60,000 PSI just inches from your face.

The anvil is part of the cartridge case. That's why there are 2 (or more) off-center holes.

It's not a question of reconfiguring the brass. It's just a different decapping process. You either use a decapper that rips them out of the case:

or use pneumatic/hydraulic decapping.

The berdan cartridge igniting system is indeed an American invention. Google Hiram Berdan and you'll get your history lesson for today.

Medal guy, I do have a couple manuals and could not find Boxer in ether one. I had seen Boxer loaded on the box and just wanted to make sure it was not something different then what I was use to. I would hope I never get near the 60,000 psi as I can not afford another new gun right now :) Thanks

Reason I said its hard but not impossible is I have heard of reloaders taking berdan primed brass, drilling a small hole to make the 2 berdan flash holes into one. Resulting in boxer primer process. I am not sure how much success they have with this process as I don't have anything that is Berdan primed so I have no reason to follow up on it. Must be some amount as they still have all their fingers and eyes.

Berdan primers in .217, the most common size, are once again being imported into the US and are available from Graf's, Powder Valley and DAG Ammo.
The whole process of converting a .217 Berdan case to use a .210 Boxer primer always seemed a bit "iffy" to me. Now that the proper primers are once again available, I think it's just plain crazy.
