I went to Elm Fork to shoot Saturday. Got there at about 8:50. Over on an empty field the Boy Scouts were raising the flag and conduction their opening ceremony. For the rest of the day, we saw about 80 or so Boy Scouts on the practice traps, on the trap range, on the skeet range on the 5 stands, they were all over the place.

What a great sight to see. All these young men learning to shoot and compete. I am of the opinion that every young man and woman should learn the shooting skills.

Just kind of made my day.

My 12 year old Grandson is a Boy Scout. He was so proud last summer when he got his rifle and archery badges the same week (at camp). I felt pretty good toosince I gave him his Bow and his Henry Golden Boy for birthday and Christmas presents. He is going after his shotgun badge this spring. Guess that will be his birthday present come April. :) I was a scout a couple hundred years ago, and I remember how it felt to get rewarded for having the best time of your life.

I learned to shoot a 22 rifle in the boy scouts when i was 12.....that was 44 yrs ago.

From then till 2 yrs ago i shot a shotgun once at a gun club. Then I got back into shooting sports for the first time 2 yrs ago and went from 0 guns to 14.

I can still remember the old boy scout range master......"Ready on the right...ready on the left....the firing line is ready...commence firing" and all the safety things he taught us after all these years. Each night at dinner he gave out a silver bullet to the "marksman" of the day. It was sooo cool.

Glad to see they are still doing it.

Pretty much parallels my story except it has been 4 years. A buddy got me into pistol shooting. We started shotgun and clay sports together about 3 years ago. I now have 13 shotguns (I think that's right, I haven't counted lately).

Yep, gotta love the Scouts. Great organization. Lots of us have learned a lot of things from Boy Scouts.

also glad to hear that. it hasn't been as long for me (12 years in my case), but still miss the good old days at camp geronimo shooting 22's with my scout buddies.

Yeah I enjoy going to shoot with the local troop since I'm just a big kid myself and alumni. Had my gun out a few weeks ago back in January for a council event.
