Hey everybody! I'm building my first AR, and so far it's going smooth and I'm loving it. After seeing Boyd's furniture and how beautiful it looks on an AR, I fell in love. I was curious if anyone had experience with them on AR's, I love their bolt action stocks. I was also curious on what they mean by "triangle front cap" and why their hand guards are not compatible with the triangular shape. Any response are welcome, pardon my ignorance. Thanks for your time!

Can't help with the Boyd's, but the triangular handguard cap is popular on mid-length gas setups. Rifle and carbine gas usually use round. The widths are different, making alignment tangs work with one design or the other.

Interesting. Is there a reason that mid length prefers triangular caps? Or is that just a simplicity thing among manufacturers?

The triangular handguard cap is the old style and the round is the new. The round ones were first used on the M16A2 back in 1985. Most handguards will work with either one but some will only work with one or the other. I have extra if you don't have the right one.

As of now I'm not sure if I'll need a cap, I'm planning it out now. Trying to decide on an upper, but have built my lower except for the buttstock. That's what led me down the furniture and in turn cap rabbit hole.
