The RS22 is a good starting rifle. If you are looking at Appleseed, call Tech Sights. They have a sight that works if yo you just shorten the front sight screw.

Essentially they are a Mossberg Plinkster with a better stock. I have been pleased with mine

Wow, cant go wrong at that price!

My oldest started off with the Mossberg 377 Plinkster I had as a kid. It is still her go-to long gun as it is very accurate- though she got plenty of practice clearing jams and I got pretty good at detail stripping it for cleaning as it becomes unusably gummed up every 1000 rounds or so.

Im building her an AR9 now as she and her husband are buying a house and need an HD carbine.

I got sick of clearing jams, so I started off my youngest with an antique bolt action Marlin M80E.

But she wanted a scope so switched over to an M70-
index-45.jpg Yay, more jams to clear! Not nearly as bad as the old Mossberg, though.

Shes getting a lower for Christmas so she can start building her own AR. Here we go again......:)

Ironically, Im coming full circle again myself with a renewed interest in rimfires-

I kinda like the FO sights it came with. Gonna give those a try first. Agree though the Tech Sights are nice, have those on my 10/22

My son was given a Henry Youth .22 lever gun three years ago (he was 11). One of my twin girls will be getting something similar next year (one is a gun kid, the other twin isn’t).

Now buy him a few bricks of .22lr and you’ll be set for a while!

Merry Christmas and a Safe and Happy New Year!

Well, my kids have their own guns in the sense that when we head out, some of mine or mom's or grandpa's are dedicated for their use. The 8 year old has a cricket that she's had for 2 years, the 12 year heavily borrows our stuff (getting a 6.5 c built this summer) and either mom's 20 GA or grandpa's 10/22 goes with her for small stuff, the ten year old liked our .223 except for it being a single shot and wants to shoot at the ranges I do with our current 6mm and 7mm rifles so he wound up with an axis ii Boyds at 1 thumb hole under the tree in .22-250 this year, it was cold yesterday but the groups are already promising, now we just need a better scope by his birthday lol!

Bought this for my daughter. She's 9 y/o. My son is 10 couldn't careless. Going to take her to the range in a couple days. Actually surprised how smooth the action and trigger are on this. IMG_20191220_173223.jpg
