So, I have three .44 BP revolvers, and shoot them very little. I haven't had a need to search for powder, caps, balls and .44 wads yet, but I'm wondering if the current craziness over ammo and reloading supplies has affected BP supplies too. Have you guys been able to get stuff? There's no place near me to check, it would be a long drive just to find the shelves bare. I'm not out, but getting kinda low.

Good morning
Just to buy one pound like so many used to do is near out of the question if you shoot alot. But I would call around. Telephone is cheap compared to gasoline.
To get a price for bulk buy try Kygunco.com. They sell BP and many other products. But unless you order 20 pounds or so the price Hazmat is self defeating.
Numerous other dealers of BP are easy to find via internet for large casefull buys.

Folks have reported shortages of balls, caps and powder. Some folks are hoarding just to hoard.

It seems I had bought the last of the caps from Cabelas.

I used to buy a pound of powder and a few tins at a time, but have since bought online, which means I must order a larger quantity to make the hazmat fee/shipping worthwhile.

I've recently bought from Graf's, which has fair prices, but if you'll be buying 5 pounds or more at a time you should look at Powder Inc.

My projectiles I ordered from a fellow on another forum who casts, but he's recently quit selling to the public. He said he would still sell to me, but he hasn't returned a PM from a week ago... Now I'm looking for someone who casts for a reasonable price (he sold .457" RB's for $7/100!), but also looking into casting for myself. Buying Lee casting stuff is cheap, and it doesn't seem like it would take long to recoup the cost.

I make my own felt wads and bullet/patch lube. A couple of punches from a fellow in Ohio (retired machinist), felt from Durofelt, and the ingredients to make Gatofeo's #1 lube, as well as pillow ticking to make patches.

I've also bought from Dixie Gun Works and Track of The Wolf.

@rodwha Casting's definitely straightforward although somewhat time consuming, especially at first when your reject rate's higher. But lead's definitely a lot cheaper than cast balls, so once you get rolling you can save a lot even if you're buying the lead and not scrounging it somehow.

rodwha - I have Lee moulds for some RB moulds. However, for other boolits like the .577 Minie and the .52 Sharps, I have steel moulds. Lee does work, but I've never tried their non-RBs. Being self-sufficient is part of the BP hobby. Have fun.

I sure don't plan to order any of this stuff online and pay hazmat fees for shipping! I meant buying locally at your normal sources, if any shortages were seen in BP supplies. There's no place really near me to go, they're all miles away. I'll try calling, if they'll answer. But there's a huge new Cabela's opening in a month about 5 miles away, hopefully they'll have the goods.

In NJ after much phone calling I was able to get one tin of 100 No. 10 caps to try out my new 1858 Remington. That was the last tin and everyone else within driving distance is totally sold out. So that's the situation here. I managed to try out the Remington and have to say it was a lot of fun. Been meaning to get a cap and ball revolver for a long time and finally took the plunge. Fantastic! I need to get an 1851 Colt now! And one of those pocket models! And teach myself how to cast lead balls!

I have a BassPro and a BP gun store not too far. They ran out of Triple 7 and all percussion caps, which is what sent me looking online.

As I found, the prices are lower than in the store, but to make it worthwhile you need to order several pounds of powder. I figured I was about breaking even at 3 pounds. After that I'd do better online.

It's also nice to not have to go down there only to find they don't have what you want, or waiting in line to speak with someone behind the gun counter to find out if they are selling Olde Eynsford BP. I've not liked the way the guys behind the counter have treated me at BassPro.

There are a few other sporting goods stores, but they seem to only work with inlines.
