There's a maker out there that IIRC specialized in full western rigs and was well thought of by Rangers; they had big glamour shots of some of the more impressive examples, and they were just breathtakingly beautiful - tons of tooling, conchos and the works. They were priced at something like $1200 per rig. Anyone know what I'm talking about?

Pretty sure it wasn't Tucker, Kirkpatrick or Andrews...

I presume you mean companies or custom makers that are still in business today. If so, also look at: www.frontiergunleather.com

John Bianchi is a legend within the gun industry, and if you have the money he'll make anything you want. Top quality, and he's recognized as an authority on "western rigs", past and present.

They had a blurb somewhere about Rangers being popular customers - but they were referring to contemporary Rangers, not old-tyme Rangers. Sorry I didn't clarify earlier. They are still in business, these were examples of their custom work.

All I can really remember about the site is that the intro page had a few big pics of some of the full rigs they'd done - and they were the leather equivalents of a high-grade, engraved H&H or something. Truly incredible.

I've searched my bookmarks for "holster," "leather" and the like and haven't been able to find the site, so I assume I didn't bookmark it. D'oh! :(

One of those old Guns & Ammo collections of 1911 articles a few years back had an article on Western & Military style holsters for the 1911. They did cover the El Paso Saddlery models, but there was another maker that also offered tooled western style holsters. Sorry, but I can't remember the maker. It's one of those things that if I saw the name I'd recognize it, but I can't think of it.

I know what you mean. I've spent the better part of an hour scouring Google for "western rig," "custom holster" and a few other such terms and probably been through 50+ sites - unless whomever I'm thinking of changed their site layout, the closest I can find so far is Kirkpatrick (which I'm fairly certain isn't it). Whoever they are they're not easy to find... :D
