Hello all, There is a breand new Smith model 36 in .38 special I am thinking about bidding on at gunbrokers. My question is this, I messaged him and asked what his reserve was ( this is the 2nd time listed the last bid before the auction ended was 300.00 and the reserve was not met ) he E-mailed me back and said the reserve was 425.00 all the pictures prove it is infact brand new and never fired. I really like the gun, but is 425.00 asking too much, I dont want to get taken. also this is my first post here so thanks everyone in advance, Be Safe. Dave

If you are going to shoot it anyway I say look for a used 36. They are not hard to find, even the ones from the 60s.

used 36s go for $300 here in Kali.

That price isn't out of line, in my opinion, for a minty '68 M36....does he have the original box and docs too ? If yes...then it is definitely within reason. I don't know if you can make him a offer for, say, $385-$400. However, if you are looking for something to carry that is "shooters-grade" , I concur with SnWnMe; you can find a better deal.

I wold buy it as a shooter just because I like most thngs older rather than newer stuff.cars and guns in particular.

With those additional charges, that is fairly steep.
I would try to get a used one, they should be alot cheaper, especially if you are going to use it.

I just bought a Model 36 No-Dash (early 1980s) for $399 - and that was in California, where prices are 30%+ higher than the rest of the country. Condition was 95%, fired very little, looks great. I'd pay that again, but your price seems high to me.

I would browse a few gun shows first. S&W Model 36's can be found at better prices in most cases, however; $425 is not bad for one in NIB condition!

I think you can do better - for that price the box should be in great shape with everything in it and the gun should be mint with no turn line. I saw one this past weekend for $360, the revolver looked new and he had the box but didn't have the papers - I think, but I am not positive, that a 1960's era M36 should have the instruction/parts sheet, a warranty card and the cleaning rod if its ANIB. Does it have diamond grips?
