Just got a NIB Marlin 795 synthetic with blued steel rifle. What are suggestions for prepping this gun for initial shooting. I am not real mechanical and am slightly nervous about removing the action before I shoot it even once. I have sprayed a little Remington Dry Lube in the action. I see the handbook tells how to remove the action group for cleaning and lube. Should I do this far enough to spray some dry lube or RemOil in there. I know this is the same action as a 60 and I do not want to much lube in there to get gummed up with powder residue and such. Also, is there any reason just to shoot higher quality ammo like CCI Mini Mag and refrain from shooting Fed bulk pack and such in it to keep it more clean. I know I WILL NEVER shoot Thunderbolts in it because they are so darn dirty....or am I being too paranoid? Thanks in advance for all your experienced advice.

It's fairly easy to take apart, and i would encourage you to do so just to gain familiarity with the weapon. To me, the hardest part is putting it back together without bending the recoil spring. It really doesn't need to be cleaned and lubed that often, maybe once every thousand rounds or so? I use plastilube grease personally.

When I first got mine I just took it all apart and cleaned out the bore. It had some leftover stuff in it. Of course I did other things after that, like work the action a lot because it was a little rough at first. I think if you just clean out the bore and lightly oil the action you should be fine to shoot.

+1 for lonestarwings comment, you should take it apart to get more familiar with it. Here is a video that show how to do it.
