Briley Spherical Bushing

What are your thoughts on the Briley spherical bushing? I upgraded my Colt Series 70 Combat Commander with a drop-in Bar-Sto barrel and this bushing and I now get ragged 1-hole groups at 25 yards. I'm interested in using this bushing on a carry gun I'm working on and would like your thoughts/opinions.

Thanks in advance. BTW, so far I've been very pleased with this bushing.

The spherical bushing involves moving parts, just one more thing to break. On a range gun this would be an annoyance, on a defensive gun such a parts breakage could be leathal to the gun owner. My personal preference on defensive pistols is to keep it simple and have as few moving parts as possible. No special bushings, no adjustable sights, no oversized parts, just plain simple and reliable.

I have one on a Para P-14 and it has made the gun VERY accurate (with a good barrel). I really like the spherical bushings. I do carry the gun some and am not afraid of breakage any more than any other parts.

That said, it seems to me that the tolerances of the bushing on the barrel are very close and a situation where a lot of dirt, dust or grit were present might be hard on the bushing/barrel and MIGHT tie up the gun.

Been told Briley is the way to go on a Service Ace

Been told Briley is the way to go on a Service Ace - can't argue with that and with the notion that Briley is a good, perhaps the best, choice for the hobbyist to do at home.

Obviously the sperical bushing system works for Smith & Wesson and others. I suspect without knowing that like the collet bushing it will work perfectly if well done and give different problems if not.

Just the same - though spherical works on a Service Ace range gun - I'd go traditional on a carry gun.

My FLG put in a number of them until two things discouraged him.
His personal gun chipped off a flake of TiN and scored the barrel.
He realized that a plain match bushing and a fitting charge made more money for him than a ball bushing and a quick fit.

I have one of his earlier efforts with Briley and it works just fine in competition. It gets shot a lot and cleaned no more than it just has to have. I don't think it any more subject to dirt that a tight conventional bushing.

I used a Briley Spherical bushing in this Frankenpistol I put together years ago. Mostly because, at the time, I had no idea how to fit an oversize solid bushing.



I stopped counting rounds at 20k, and that was years ago. No sign of undo wear, and it's still going strong.
