I have a Browning 16 A5 that used to belong to my Dad. I have been trying to find out a little about as it has a couple of features that I haven't seen in any others. For instance the Safety is in the front of the trigger guard and is disengaged by simply pushing it forward. The Serial # is Xx642. the first X being an actual Digit. This is on the bottom of the receiver at the front of the loading port. The FN logo can be seen faintly just above the #. It has engraving on the side of the receiver along with Browning Arms Co. Made in Belgium. The gun is all original and the blue I would estimate at about 90%. The Browning site was kinda vague as to when it was manufactured. Was hoping someone here could shed a little light. Thanks Joe

I could help you if you would re-post the serial number and leave out the x's on the first three digits.
If you want to block out some numbers, do it on the end of the serial number where it doesn't make any differance.
Six digit numbers cover 1931 (108001) to 1953 (438000) when the numbering system was changed.
Without knowing what the first three are, thats as close as I can get.

It is five digit number, not a six. Also as stated in the original post the First digit actually is an X making the number read X2642 with the FN logo just above it. Also it shows Browning Arms Co., St Louis, Mo. on the barrel and side of the receiver.
