One of the local pawn shops has a nice older Browning A5 for sale. It is a 16 GA, vent rib barrel, and has a Poly Choke installed. The factory engraving is still crisp, the checkering on the rounded pistol grip is still sharp. The wood is very nice.
They have it priced at $495, but believe I can talk them down a bit. I will go back in a day or so, and try. The counter guy said the gun has been in inventory for about a year.
I tried looking on Browning's web site for info on when it was made. The serial number starts with the letter X, and has 5 digits.
Any thoughts? Well, other than go back tommorrow and buy it?

it was made sometime between Jun 1947 and Sep 1953. Pm me with the full serial number and I can narrow it down to the exact year.

Isn't that an "American Browning" made by Remington? If so it is worth about 70% of an FN made one. Personally I'd pay about that for a later "sweet sixteen" being it has a price reducing poly choke.:uhoh:

If you want to shoot the A5, I found that 16 Ga ammo is expensive. I haven't tried any yet, but I bought a case of RIO 16Ga for real cheap.
