I purchased a bare Browning A-Bolt action setup for .223. I went and bought what was claimed to be a short action Browning A-Bolt synthetic stock off Gunbroker. The action fits, but I find that the forward action screw is about half an inch too far forward.

Inside the stock it says, "BROWNING S/A".

Did I do a dumb and buy the wrong stock? I see there being short and long actions. Nothing about something that's even shorter for .223, but I've missed things before.

What is the correct stock that I would need for this action?

Thanks everyone.

There are "Micro"s but I didn't think they actually had a different inletting.......that's an interesting one.

There have been three different iterations of the A-Bolt; the original A-Bolt, AB-II and AB-III. I don't know but possibly the action screw spacing has changed over time. Browning would know.

I agree with burrhead, there has been three iterations of the A Bolt. Betting they have different types of inletting.

There were actually only 2 A-bolts generations, and both use the same stocks.
The AB3 is a completely separate design.

The Micro A-bolts are a variant of the gen 2s i think, dont know if ive ever seen a gen 1 Micro. Ive also never seen a WSM abolt, micro or otherwise, so there maybe a stock variation there also.
