Browning Buck Mark

I have a gunmate nylon holster that I sometimes use for it, but it doesn't work well. Due to the length of the barrel, it sticks through the open end of the holster, and the front sight usually snags on the way out. It's not a carry piece, the holster is just a convenient place to put it when I'm at the range, so for the time being, I'm just putting up with it.
Finding a holster that actually fits it well should go on my todo list...

Gotcha. I know some people hunt small game with handguns chambered in 22LR, and I figured the Buck Mark might be one of the more popular choices for that crowd. That lead me to the holster question.

LOVE my Buckmark. It remains my favorite thing to shoot of all I own. As far as ammo preference, mine will run anything I've ever tried in it.

My friend bought one and it's now his favorite handgun to shoot. I still run into problems on his gun where I try and grip it too high and the controls interfere with my grip. That's one of the big reasons I don't own one, but I still do recommend them to people simply based on how much he enjoys his.

Another big fan here. We've got two in the house.

And since this has turned into a bit of a picture thread...

The wife won't let me tinker with hers other than some target-y grips she likes.

And since it hasn't been said yet, the "ultimate cliploader" is a must have accessory (~$25). With one of those and a handful of magazines (we have 10) bulk boxes of ammo don't last long :D.

What do y'alls Buckmark like best for ammunition? I'd like to get a brick, but I haven't tried enough (variety) to know what is most reliable.

I shot my friend's a few times before I bought one, and I found that the Federal .22 ammo seems to be pretty reliable. I've also used Winchester, which had a few duds here and there. My friend had some issues with Remington; he kept getting duds every few magazines.

DAdams, that's some nice leather there.

Another Buckmark fan here. I've had High Standard Victors, bunches of tuned Rugers, Colt Woodsman, S&W 41, etc., etc. When I (finally) bought my Buckmark Match Target Extra I found my personal favorite. Magoo, I like your straight-faced trigger. And I agree, the Heggis Flip is a fun mod.

Just curious what sets the Buckmark apart from the Rugers for you guys. I have been looking at .22 pistols for a while now and kept thinking I wanted a Buckmark. Then I went to a gun show and handled some Rugers and came away liking them better.

Then, IMHO, buy the Ruger. I've had Rugers from (1973?) Mk1 Standards to MkII Targets (tapered & bull barrels) to 22/45 & Hunter Models. Between Ruger Mk? and various Buckmark models there isn't enough difference in cost or performance to try & convince you either way. If the Ruger feels better? Go Ruger & enjoy the heck out of it!

I am thinking that the Buckmark might be a little easier to reassemble after cleaning.

For me, between the Buckmark and the Ruger (assuming you were referring to a Mark III?), the question wasn't which one to get, but which one to get first. I looked at them both the day I brought home my Buckmark, but I don't remember the final, deciding criteria. I haven't gotten around to getting the Mark III yet...hopefully this year...

I've been a Ruger MK II guy for twenty years. I have four of them now, and really, really like them. Some have mods, some don't, and the ones I have kept stock have good out of the box triggers.

However, I'd really like to get a Buckmark Plus. A friend has two and really likes them. They are a joy to shoot. I'd like to find one of the older frame, with rosewood stock, and not a URX. I guess that would be the older pre-URX, slabside, "Plus" model.

RE: AMMO for BUCK MARK

Anything but Remington Golden Bullet Bulk Pack!!!

I must have had one "dud" every magazine. I was worried my firing pin wasn't hitting hard enough, but looking at the dents on the rim, it seemed to be plenty enough force.

Federal bulk packs have worked well for me. Had exactly one jam in nearly 1000 rounds, and no duds. And of course the CCI mini mags are the bee's knees and have been 100% in my buck mark.

My wife shoots a Buckmark Camper. It doesn't look near as good as the other Buckmarks on this thread, but it serves it's purpose. She shoots CCI Mini Mags without any problems...except the one time she got hold of a box that had extra wax on the bullets and jambed continually. When I borrow it I shoot the Rem Golden bullets & yes they do tend to jamb some, but boy are they cheap compared to the Mini-mags.

I like the federal autoloader match 550 pack. Cheap and reasonably accurate. Not quite as good as CCI, but close enough I don't mind.

Come stick my head in here to see if there’s any chatter regarding Buckmarks and lookie what’s going on….

I give props to the Buckmark as well. The Ruger MK’s are fine guns too, but I just prefer the Buckmark. I’ve been shooting this one just about every weekend since ‘08. EXTREEMLY accurate gun and very fun to shoot. I mostly shoot long range steel targets for practice and, for me, the gun is actually a dream to shoot. I get rabbits all the time with it. I nailed a turkey in the neck with it this season at an unbelievable range….with a little skill and a ton of luck.

I don't really think one is particularly better than the other. I initially looked at buying one so I could stop borrowing my friend's, and I really liked his gun. Personally, I love the way mine fits my hand (which is due to the finger grooves), the way it hits very small targets consistently (which I don't think is any different with a Ruger), and the way it looks (which I like because of the design, grips, and slab-side barrel).

I use cci mini mag 40 grain solids in my camper and they are flawless. Also,
when my dad handled the buckmark he commented that the grip is more wide than the rugers, which lead to a better feel than the rugers. YMMV
p.s. the trigger is absolutely amazing on mine.

Wife has one. At first I didn't care for it much. Now, however, I shoot it the most! Great little gun

Excellent design. I use Buckmarks in pistol classes that I run. After much use and abuse one of them finally broke at the last class. I also use Ruger 22 pistols that seem almost indestructible.

Other makes of .22 pistols that I have used seemed to require gunsmithing on a regular basis. :scrutiny:

Either one is fine with me. I don't view one as being better than the other. The Ruger has an infinite amount of aftermarket stuff. You can turn a run of the mill mk whatever into an all out bullseye or other competition gun. With the buckmark, you're limited to pretty much what tacticalsol has to offer....which is still pretty much anything you would want.

I went with the buckmark at the time of my purchase because for the same money as a standard mkIII, I could get a buckmark with a bull barrel, target crown, adjustable sights, FO front sight, URX contour grip and 3 magazines. Had the price difference leaned toward the ruger, I would have happily bought it.
