New gun....

What gives?

First time out with the gun, the first 6 shots, none of them eject. The casing is just stuck in the back side of the barrel.

I pull it out, reload the magazine and go again, same problem.

I had the range guy look at it and he had the same problems with his first 2 rounds, then suddenly it fires w/ no problems.

I finish the day with no more problems.

Then went to the range again and had about 3 failure to eject.

What's going on?

Browning Buck Mark Camper
Federal Walmart 550 bulk pack 22lr

Out of about 300 rounds, we've had 8 or 9 FTE's

Brownings are very picky about ammo from all the ones I have seen. I don't know anybody who owns a Buckmark who hasn't had problems with them.

I've never had any problems with mine. About 2500 rounds through it. Mostly use federal bulk. The stuff they call target, has non-plated lead bullets. White and black box.

You do now.;)

Bad extractor?
First try some high velocity ammo ... or stuff other than those BIG BOX 550 round .22s. If it is a consistant problem then Browning needs to fix it for you.

I have a Buck Mark camper and have had no problems using any type of ammo. But any particular gun even from a good company like Browning might have a problem from the factory and need tweeking.

I respectfully disagree. I know six people who own or have owned buckmarks. I've personally watched all of them behave in the same manner as described in the OP.

That is my 1st hand experience.
I just checked with my Dad, he's not had problems with his either...That makes three with no problems. Sorry you've had a bad experience! Maybe you should contact browning and encourage your six people to do the same. Good luck!

2 Buckmarks here. No troubles except the typical problems with some cheapo bulk ammo (esp Remington :barf:).

Definitely try some different ammo, or even a different lot of the same stuff.

It sounds like a malfuntioning extractor. Are the bolt face and extractor relatively clean?

Mine would jam about 1x every mag or two. I finally sent it into Browning, and they fixed it. It is 100% now with any ammo

Check the ejector wire -- it needs to be up and inward in the groove in the slide to hit the rim properly on extraction.

After years of perfection ours started stovepiping a lot. Cleaning didn't help, changing ammo was a red-herring. Bent it back into proper position and all is well again.

 I was being sarcastic, DammitBoy -- meaning : ME! I haven't had any problems. OK, we only "know" each other through this internet site ... ;)
Seriously though BuckMarks are usually considered fine guns. A few lemons will exit even good manufactorers. The Buck Mark and the Ruger Mark series are two of the most highly recommended .22 semiautos recommended on this site and others.
Again; I am not debating your experience. It is what it is. Other people are bound to have other experiences.

Give it a good scrubbing, and try a variety of ammo.

If it is brand new, there may be preservative grease or oil in the chamber that is causing sticking or slowing down function.

Also, some guns just really hate some kinds of ammo. You may have just been unfortunate enough to buy that ammo first.

I haven't had any problems with my BM (Buckmark that is :D) ejecting. Seriously I can't even remember when the last FTE or FTF was.

The last failure of any kind I had with it was actually a couple of weeks ago, when the bullet failed to fire altogether. I extracted it, it looked like it was hit plenty well by the hammer, but the primer just didn't ignite, so I just tossed it.

I currently use bulk Winchester SuperX, and I just got a few bricks of CCI Blazer, of which I shot about 200 without a glitch. I've previously used non-branded bulk .22s made in the Phillipines, Remington bulk, CCI Mini-Mags, Federal bulk, and frankly I don't think the gun is picky about the ammo. So as far as I'm concerned, I'll buy whatever is on sale.

What the OP may be experiencing is just the gun getting broken in, and the problems will soon disappear. If they don't after a couple of months, perhaps a visit to a gunsmith or a call to Browning might be in order.

My Buck Mark has consistent failures to eject with Federal, Winchester, Wolf, and Remington ammo. When I lube the crap out of it the malfunctions go down to about once every three or four mags, but if it's less lubed, I get three or four malfunctions per every one magazine instead.

Strange. Mine is the epitome of reliable. It's what I put all the rounds through that my other 22's won't shoot. If my Buckmark won't shoot it, it's a dud. Never any FTE's of any kind; untold 1000's of rounds through it over almost 20 yrs.

First thing I would do is try different ammunition. That bulk stuff is unpredictable.

My 22/45 will eat anything, doesn't matter what it is. Some semi-auto 22LR pistols are finicky and unpredictable. I don't think it's the ammo. :D
