Whoa, I think a friend of mine got taken! Bought a "new" Browning Hi-Power and he paid $700 he said... it's 9mm and it came with 10rd mags, we are allowed Hi-caps in Northern Va. It's pretty, it's blued, not enameled. It looks great but way overpriced in my opinion.

And for being "brand new" it has the serial number on the front strap of the grip, I thought they moved it to the dust cover.

Any opinions?

As far as I know, with the exception of the Practical, they still put the serial # on the frontstrap. The last new blued HP I saw around here was $659.00. If Browning had a price increase when most of the other makers did, then $700 is probably not too far off. At least around here, new HPs are pretty scarce.

That's close to the price I'v seen in local Gunshops in central Ohio, and for new Hi Powers on AuctionArms and Gunbroker.I think your friend paid the going rate.

Yeah, unfortunately, HiPowers are expensive. I remember being able to buy used Belgian models for $300 years ago... Of course, I remember being able to get used Colt 70 series 1911s for $300...

One of the most regrettable gun losses I've ever had, was years ago when I sold a MKII Hi Power, with the parkerized finish, ambi safety and rib on the top of the slide in mint condition for $350. I still kick myself over that.

(Yep, they are one of my favorite pistols.)

Well then he'll be happy to hear that. I haven't even tried to price Hi-Powers in the past couple years, I had no clue they were up to that price range...

Thanks :)

CDNN just finished closing out FN made Hi Powers for $399.00. I just got a matt finish with plastic grips from my dealer yesterday. Just does not say Browning on it. Came with a 10 round and a 13 round mag. Great deal. I have heard they are sold out of them. You could get the BDA or MkIII for $399 to $429 depending on grips and finish.

Deez.

$700 is about right around here. I happily paid $599 for the basic epoxy-coated MkIII 2 or 3 years ago.

$300 BHPs? That has been awhile. I remember when cigs were $.25 and gas was $.19. ;)

...and you could go to a movie for .25 and still have money left over for hamburgers and cokes afterwards with your girlfriend... ahem...

:)

Here in Oklahoma the Standard Hi-Power with fixed sights sell for anywhere from $619.00 to $679.00. The cheapest Practicals I have seen were about $689.00. You can pick up MKIII's for $595.00 to $609.00 all day long. The FN is the gun to get though for anyone is considering a MKIII.

$700.00 is not that far off, especially if he bought the adjustable sights version.

I miss my 125.00 Python.

I'm seeing 699.00 for "Practicals". No problem at all with 700.00 for the polished blue persausion.

Not out of line at all in my area - spotted one the other day in a big gun store , blued, adj sites at $749.

I've long wanted an HP Practical. What's been keeping me away was the price. The absolute cheapest I've seen was a year ago a dealer I frequently buy from had one at a gunshow for $650. He told me he couldn't move it, it was his last, he wasn't getting any more b/c he had trouble moving them, so he was selling this one bargain basement. I thought hard about it, but ended up going home with a USP Compact for the same price.

I come across both blued and matte finished HP (Browning and FN) for $550-600 pretty routinely and see Practicals rarely. I'm afraid I'll never get one.

I do have an FEG HP clone. Very nice. Picked it up for $200. Followed that up with an Arcus two tone for $250 just a few months ago.

That's how much I paid for mine. I got it a year ago. Maybe I bought yours! :D
