Just curious for those who carry (carried) a hi-power. What holster did or do you use? Was cocked and locked carry w/o grip safety a concern?

I carry a FN Hi Power every day in a Ted Blocker DA3. It's got the SFS system, so no issues with the safety.

I also have a FM Hi-Power with a standard setup (no SFS). The DA3 holster will often drop the safety of the FM pistol into the fire position during the draw due to friction between the safety and the holster. For that reason I bought an Uncle Mike's belt slide holster for the FM.

I carry a BHP all day, every day. I have many holsters for mine... you just kind of accumulate them over time. The most frequently used is a COM holster by HBE Leatherworks. It's old, beat up, abused, and worn, but still comfortable as ever.

Cocked and locked isn't even a slight concern. I've never had the safety swipe off, but even if I did, it's still in a holster that covers the trigger. Absolutely nothing to worry about.

Sometimes carry my FN in a Galco summer comfort. It's a decent holster although I think it carries the gun too high on my back.

It's my dress up gun. :)

My usual carry gun is an XD.

Hello. I have an old Bianchi Askins' Avenger that I sometimes use as well as a couple from Mr. Garrity and Mr. Larsen. When working on a friend's ranch, I have also used the military type Bianchi UM84.

None of these OWB or IWB holsters have safety straps. I have not had any problem with the thumb safety wiping off from the safe position but while my Hi Powers do have the factory extended thumb safeties, I have rendered them single-side for a right-handed shooter.

Any good holster that fits you comfortably, holds the gun securely while covering the triggerguard should be plenty safe with a Hi Power that is in sound mechanical condition. For a concealment OWB holster, I like them to cant the gun's butt in toward the body, which lessens the chances of "printing."

Best.

I still like the Milt Sparks VMII for inside the waist band. One of these days I would like to try one of their Watch Six editions.

My next holster for my brace of Hi Powers will be a Milt Sparks BN55 straight drop.

Good luck

Fred

PS I strongly recommend Mr Camps book on Hi Powers. Great read, good reference.
