I wouldn't take a BSA scope for free. I gave away my last one, and the guy who got it ended up chucking it, too, even though he was unemployed and had a varmint problem (they do a little sportfarming and rodents were eating their poultry feed and vegetables).

For $200 or a little more you can get some decent scopes. At the very least, you can use the $200 to get you much of the way there.

Bushnell, Burris, Nikon, Leupold even.

quite frankly it's a cheap scope and doesn't take a whole lot of recoil very well.
It's great on a .22 and that's what I use it for. Tried one on a mini-14 lost zero in 5 shots.

AFS

Mine seemed fine at first, but stopped holding zero after about 100 shots on a .22LR.

Birmingham Small Arms...........The one I had seemed to be made by the third shift at the Chineese Tasco Factory, it was that bad, even for using on a .22.

I wouldn't. As a gift I would but I'd pass it off, kinda like that fruit cake thats been moving around your family for the last 25 years :D

Bushnell makes good scopes in a wide range of price ranges

BSA is not what they used to be. They are not British made, and they are Wal-Mart items now.

Now that made me laugh ;)

I agree about the Bushnell scopes. Although oviously they have the high end stuff I put a Sportview on a .243 for get by glass. It's held it's own.

I just bought a 39.99 bushnell for my marlin 60.

They are good scopes and like I said, cover a wide range of budgets and firearm types (you aren't gonna but a several hundred dollar leopold on a hundred dollar rimfire for example...least I'm not lol)

I like BSA's, believe it or not.

I keep buying them to put them on guns I'm going to beat the hell out of, and they just keep taking it. Maybe I've just been lucky, but all three BSA's that I've purchased have turned out to be good quality, durable scopes.

No one has been more surpised than me on this one, trust me.

I really like the Platinum models in the 6 x 24 or the 8 x 32 powers.
A very good scope, they have been working fine for me on small and large caliber rifles.
I have never had any experience with any of bsa's other models.

I shoot a lot of rimfires and have had great luck with BSA scopes. The only one I had problems with was because I dropped it on my concrete basement floor while it was attached to my bull barrel 10/22 action.

I don't think I would use one on a centerfire rifle caliber. I also have a Ruger PC9 that I put a BSA on, but that hardly has any recoil.

Changeed my mind

I got the Bushnell Banner 6-24x 40mm. Good price, good brand, good turn around. Couldn't resist a good bipod and sling. I'll put the scope that came with the 10FXP3 on my Ranger .22. Pretty dialed in for the year now I feel.

Where do you all stand on Coyote hunting? I appreciate the year-round opportunity and their interesting habits but I'm used to meat hunting. I have a hint of apprehension hunting an animal that i don't at least know how to dispoose of. Are yotes good hides or bones? Any recs on small eats?
thnx

Guys, do not skimp on your scopes. At least not in the wrong directions. Say you've got the shot of a lifetime lined up... That zombie is about to attack a herd of cheerleaders, and you're the only who can stop him. You've got the shot lined up, you pull the trigger, and then you find out that your crosshairs shifted. The bullet goes by his ear, he bites three out of the dozen cheerleaders, and the rest won't talk to you, much less sleep with you, even if you ARE the last man on earth.

Ebay is your friend. Look for the name brands - their "higher end" stuff. That and vintage stuff. Leupold goes high, but you can find nicer scopes from the other folks.
