BSA scope opinions

There are some great cheap optics on the market today.

For a magnified optic I wouldn't go less than $150-$200 dollars. BSA, no.

Burris, or Vortex are my go to for less expensive optics. Vortex Razors are the nicest optics that I own. Definitely diminishing returns once you get over $750 bucks.

If it comes in a blister pack at walmart, it's guaranteed to be junk and you might as well just set that money on fire.

For a long end scope I’d rather go with Meopta or Leupold. Best glass for the lowest price and they have great customer service.

Burris Fullfield II 6.5-20x50mm with ballistic Mil-Dot reticle is $151 (Made in Philippines) - https://www.thehighroad.org/index.p...ris-fullfield-ii-6-5-20x-50mm-mil-dot.920131/

I think Bushnell Trophy 3-9x40mm for $87 is one such scope with great lifetime warranty - https://palmettostatearmory.com/bus...Avantlink&utm_medium=Referral&utm_campaign=df

I'd probably go with a lower end Bushnell over a BSA. Actually, I have 2 Bushnells sitting on the shelf I've been meaning to sell now that I say that. I have a Bushnell, Mueller, and a couple Burrises nlon my rifles at the moment.

BSA optics are cheap but I would stop short of calling them junk.

This one is about 20 years old and while it eats batteries like a fat kid eats candy and the dot is not very round, it has held up and not changed zero.

I think I have two of their cheap variable scopes too and I’d pick them over Tasco bottom end these days, at least from the last few test sessions I have had.

When I worked at the LGS, the owner told me that something like the failure rates were maybe 1 of 100 for high end scopes like Leupold or Swarovski, maybe 1 in 10 for mid priced scopes like Bushnell, and as high as 6 out of 10 for cheap scopes.

I remember we had some “factory refurbished” Tasco. IIRC they were something like $10 or $15. If a customer brought one back we would throw it in the trash and hand them another. I think he said he paid just a couple dollars apiece for them. There were called refurbished, but I very strongly suspect they were just returns that Tasco got a little money out of

As you increase price, your odds of success increase significantly. That doesn’t mean the every cheap scope fails and every expensive unit is trouble free, but the odds change with the price

The old glossy blue Tasco 3-9 scopes were all pretty solid. I have even used one on my 50 BMG after it turned a, thousands of dollars, more expensive optic into a kaleidoscope. It took the abuse and is still in use to this day on the rifle I robbed it from.

The last batch of the flat black ones I went through I returned 5 of 6, my 45-70 scope testing rifle failed all but one. That kind of made it more trouble than it’s worth though. Easier to just get something better…
