Hi everyone, just joined today been using the form as a reference for some time now, all ways good info here on the high road. To the point, had my buckmark stainless camper for almost a year now and i love it (even thought the screw in the plastic upper dose backout like everyone said) I was out shooting it today and about half way thu the 4th mag i had a round that made a very light pop.
Im shooting CCI standards and with my ear protection on it really didnt sound right, i wasent sure the round even left the barrel. after dropin the mag and carefully pullin the slide back I inspected the gun every thing seemed fine beside a little extra blackness and some unburnt powder. I am in Maine and it was only like 15 out there so im blaming it on the cold. when i picked the spent case up it has black all up the top and around where the pin struck! so I took it all back in the house for some better light. the black was just curd however but whats got me worried in the strike seems really deep and has sharp square edges i checked some other CCI Brass i had collected the strike dents all seem to be like this with sharp edges, Wow i could have made this shorter prolly, sorry
Do you think my firing pin is to long or could benefit from some reshaping. there is a noticable dent on the barrel, but the gun has maybe been dry fired 3 times. could be nothing but i plan on getin a tac-sol barrel and do not want it to be damaged (at almost $200 its 2/3ds what i paid for the gun new) Any Feed back is welcome.
Cheers!

Ive read a little bit about what you are saying but not enough to comment.

With all due respect to this site, I think you should go to rimfirecentral.com They have a Browning specific forum.

Thats where I read about it and they seem to be a great source there.

Maybe you could report back with what you find.

Haha yeah i got the impression most people only read a little bit but i shortened it and went to rimfirecentral and gotta a answer in a few hours

thax for pointing me in the right direction danez, it really was a rimfire specific question

LOL.... actually I meant that I couldnt really comment becuase I only read a little bit on the rimfire central site.

I did read your entire post though.

I'm going to be buying a buckmark Camper in the somewhat near future and was doing some research on that site.

So, what did you find out? Is it an issue or not?

i dont know if this link will work for you but http://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?p=3308473#post3308473 that is the main thread over there its pretty massive but ill try and sum it up with my findings

it would seem a Lot of Buckmarks eather left the factory or at lest left the store "NIB" with peens on the barrels and many more left the factory with firing pins capable of being driven in to the barrel by the hammer strike. the impact pushes the metal of the breech face down into the chamber which causes chambering issues, jams and such
If you buckmark is peening your barrel i suggest you read jim WY posts and decide if you can shorten it, this requires calipers, a fine stone and a good understanding of what and how much you want to take off and why.
if you got all that plus maybe some mechanical aptitude it should be easy enough, if not you might want to find some else one who can Or as others have said spend the 5 bucks to get another firing pin so you can mess one up.

If your barrel is already severely peened there is a special tool that made to fix peen damaged rim fires chambers are a delicate area and not something to be just attacking with a file or dremmal

most of the real answers on the other forum seem to be in the more recent pages. If you cant read the rimfirecentral thread i can go into more detail about how to shorten your pin but im kinda trying to wash my hands of this I got a little carried away, and things got pretty muddled on other forum seems ppl were told different reasons and down right lies as explanations from all over, seems Denial was there solution. one guy got told it was normal another that they should all be sent in for repair one guy even got his barrel replaced, the pin was still to long:cuss:

I Will be checking up on this thread because i was able to get my firing pin just about perfect (it passed a paper test and still mashes rims:D ) and I dont want anyone to have to go threw the frustration of having there barrel mashed up by some thing that can be fixed with knowhow, its just a matter of around .015 to .020 off the pin with out making it to flat or to sharp WHEW Hope this helps
