Buckshots on burglars

This comes under the heading of going to stupid places and doing stupid things with even stupider people.
When someone decides to take up a life of crime they have put a price on the value of their life.
Aparently these two "Ladies" decided the stuff they were going to steal in that house was worth dying for.

I shot an armadillo last night w/ a 12ga, Mod Choke, 7.5 shot at about 15yds. It took a couple minutes before it expired. It was facing me when I shot it. I checked it out this morning before shoveling into a trash bag. It had several tiny holes in it's head.

A few weeks back I shot 3 dillos in a week; two were with the same shotgun / shot. One at about 12yds and cornering away. It jumped and ran off when shot. Another was less than 10 ft. It opened him up pretty bad (messy!).

At really close range bird shot is brutal (on a dillo), but add just a little more range and it's not effective.

I keep two shotguns handy and the other is loaded with buckshot. (#4 buck and I've heard from several here that say that's marginal).

FWIW.

I m thinking of getting a 18 inch beaded sight improved cylinder for Home Defense on my 28 inch long barreled Remington 870 12 g Express. News like this just reminds us that ole reliable buckshots can do a lot of hurt when put at the right spot. And besides , shotgun shells are easy to find even during times like post Sandy Hook ...

Even one is going to be a problem if he was shooting them while they were trying to escape (and no longer a threat), even in TX.

No, there are lots of these cases in Texas. I will bet good money that he will be no billed by the Grand Jury. There was an incident where a young guy was robbing the folks in an Albertsons a few blocks from my house. The store manager superstitiously called her husband on her cell. He heard what was going on and burst into the store with his Beretta 92. The guy fled. He put a round into his buttocks as he fled. He showed up a couple hours at a local hospital for treatment. The shooter wasn't even brought before the Grand Jury.

We have a wider latidude in using Deadly Force to defend ourselves ,others and property in Texas. Buckshot put food on the table for years plus criminals in the ground. Today's loads pattern and hit hard to boot. All in all a good shoot and then end of some criminals careers.

Dump the shot and fill them with rock salt.

Bad advice. . . Why would you give the bad guy any legal challenge here? Rock salt shows malice, pre-meditation, and intent. I would use nothing but factory loads for HD.

Aren't people worried that rock salt will rust their guns?

I don't want salt anywhere near my precious firearms.

And I propose we come up with a whole new tier of shot sizes called "thugshot"

Birdshot is for birds, buckshot is for bucks, thugshot is for thugs.
