Bud's Gun Shop online pricing question

IMO, it may also have to do with purchasing behavior. When you think the deal is there for the rest of the month or year, then you are less likely to buy or will wait to think about it or shop around. If you see the price go down and then think the price is going to go up tomorrow, or later in the afternoon, you are more likely to pull the trigger (buy). That is why sellers often run limited time deals, or say this is a today only price.

If the gun is hot, they want you to know they have it. If it's not selling they would rather blow it out, than tie up cash in it. If they got a good deal on something, they can promote their business by selling cheap. Be careful because all not all deals are great deals, some are overpriced, you need to know what the item cost going in. Don't think that because it's on Buds, it's automatically a great deal.
They are there to maximize profits and not knowing the market can get you in trouble by over paying.

Again, the only posts that implied any dissatisfaction......are yours.

If you read the post with the scruitny emoticons you'll note that the price increased AFTER he purchased his firearm.......I dont think thats dissatisfaction.

Sorry, but it seems you have no grasp of whats being discussed.

Huh? I do have a grasp.

And my comment about "dissatisfaction or suspicion" encompassed a set of examples I listed. I'd say "suspicion" would be more appropriate for that particular example you pulled out of my posting.

Regardless, just take my interpretations for the intent I meant and for whatever they're worth to you. Ain't nothin' but a thing.

:)

Wow- I was just trying to get a feel for the price rollercoaster and try to hop on when it was in a valley instead of a peak. I am gathering that basically no one knows the rhythm of fluctuation- if indeed there even is one. Thanks for the lively discussion.

I'm sure there's an algorithm of some kind but having bought from them for a couple years I have noticed general trends. Prices spike on Friday or Saturday as a rule and are lowest on Monday or Tues. Now this isn't 100% rule or anything but things in my cart will usually go up on the weekend and then drop back down on Monday. They will also occasionally rotate their "Team Bud's Only" label around from item to item, probably in an effort to sell more memberships.

I think it's probably based on information we don't have access to. Things like page views per day and current sales rankings. I don't think we can predict it, just monitor it to find the limits and buy then next time it swings to the low.

Several months ago, it came out that airline websites recognized the cookies left on your computer from previous visits to their website. If you went back to check on the price of something within a specified period of time, the price would be different, typically higher. Buds may be doing the same thing?

They may also be modifying the prices depending on how well an item is selling or the interest in it. As their supply dwindles, they can raise the price.

Also, Buds probably uses many different suppliers, so their costs likely fluctuate. There's a lot more to their business model than meets the eye.

Bud's doesn't maintain stock on many of their offerings. They route your order to a distributor, who drop ships it to your FFL. Prices may fluctuate based on which distributor happens to have a particular gun in stock at the moment.

It's really difficult to me to understand why Bud's would use a distributor -- at least on more popular models? Bud's moves more guns than many distributors. Why would they pay for that extra layer?

I would think with the big makers -- Remington, S&W, Ruger, Savage, Glock, etc. that they are buying direct from the family.

I'm sure they get a lot of their guns directly from the manufacturer, but not all. I had one gun show up in two days from them after I paid, and another took nearly two weeks. Didn't even ship from their warehouse, came from Lipsey's in LA.

The thing I hate about them is their stupid credit card upcharge. Yes, it's common in in the industry but I've been using gunbuyer.com a couple of times now, and they don't charge any CC or shipping fee if the order exceeds $199.99. One of the guns I ordered from them was already $29 cheaper than buds cash price.

I called my card issuer once asking about that fee the merchant charged for using my card (yes, I agreed to the fee) but my card issuer actually refunded me the 3% upcharge!
