Hey everyone.
I was scrolling through Buds yesterday and noticed that they had some S&W 5906s in stock. What is curious is the price point: just north of 700, when alot of police trades go for much less.
The description says these are new, and may have been display guns. The description offers nothing more than that, other than the guns coming with 2 ten-round mags, and a very generic-looking stock photo.
The model number listed on Bud's is 108176U, with the UPC being 022188877793. My Google-fu turned up nothing, other than similar online dealers having these in stock at a similar price point.
The serial number prefix for these guns is KNC####. On a lark, I contacted Smith, who responded that the guns had been manufactured in 2009, but provided no additional information. This is contrary to everything I had read, which was production on 5906s ceased in 1999, with limited runs being done for certain agencies.
All online offerings of these particular guns come with two ten round mags per the product description, which seems to reduce the likelihood that they are agency guns.
Has anyone else run across these? Does anyone know an exact story behind them? Being a lover of the older, all-steel Smiths I'd really like to know more about this particular run, especially since I'm strongly considering picking one up.
