Buds Preferred FFL

Preferred or not, it's just common courtesy to give the receiving dealer a heads up on your arriving gun.

This is probably one of the best posts on here. This isn't directed to the OP necessarily, but why would you just order something and not notify the FFL to set up/be expecting an item to transfer?

ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS....make sure your dealer knows you have something inbound.

I'm a Bud's Preferred Dealer.

While it means the customer isn't required to contact me prior to making his purchase it is VERY wise to do so.......

Earlier this summer I received a handgun shipment from Bud's. I didn't recognise the customers name and checked my emails to see if someone new had given me a heads up....nope, nothing by that guy.

I called the phone number and got "this number is no longer in service".:cuss:

I sat on that gun for three weeks before the buyer called to see if his gun had arrived. It was his number several years ago when he created his Bud's account.

When I called my Bud's Preferred Dealer to let him know I was having a gun shipped there I asked what the transfer fee was. His answer: "Since you're a new customer there's no charge." He was my first and only stop when I was looking for a place to spend my Christmas bonus a few months later.

before purchasing from buds go to the FFL you intend to use and ask if they have what you intended on buying from buds if they do you will save money by purchasing from the ffl because you will not be paying for shipping or ffl fees if they dont have the item you want in stock they can likeley order it for you. I would only buy from an on line dealer as a last resort.
support your local economy whenever possible.

I have a dealer up my way who is a preferred dealer, he gave me a different price that buds did,on the website, I never used him because of that, but it seemed a bit seedy.
He said "we don't do that anymore" but was still listed on buds. I never called them I figure if someone dosen't want to do something, I am not going to force them, I'll end up paying one way or the other.

I have bought 3 guns from Bud's, all were preferred FFl's. The guy I did my last two transfers with, only does transfers. His transfer fee is $20, and everything went smoothly. I didn't contact him before hand for either transfer. The other guy had a real shop, and although his transfer fee was higher he didn't mind either. As others have said, to be a preferred FFL with Bud's you have to want it. Here is what buds says about it;

Bud's Gun Shop said:
Buds "Preferred Dealers" are listed in green and have agreed to accept all incoming ATF approved transfers of firearms purchased on www.budsgunshop.com. When choosing a Preferred Dealer from our list, you will not need to contact the dealer to arrange a firearm transfer. The transfer service and rate has been pre-approved for all Bud's customers.

Local Residential FFL

I can see the potential cause for alarm if it's a gunshop (I did one years back at Cabela's but they raised their FFL rate to $50 which is too high IMO). So I got lucky and found a local FFL of whom works out of his home for $20 per item and $15 for the second gun if included in order which is rare for me.

-Cheers

Well my local FFL is also a member on here. We have a great relationship and he treats me well. He even calls me when there is something I have been asking about in the past show up in his shop that I might want to buy. Having someone in the business looking out for you is always a great thing. And yes he has transferred firearms from Buds to me before. As a rule you should ALWAYS contact the dealer at least before they get the package in case there are problems. You would not want any surprises shipped to your location if it were you either would you? If my FFL has the firearm in stock he will sell it for around the same price as Buds would end up after shipping and handling. I guess I am a lucky guy to have him here to deal with.:D

50 bucks is not high Gander Mountain in Erie charges 75.00. It all depends on what part of the country you live in and how many gun stores there are. I charge 15.00.

The one real LGS here charges $100. His prices on new guns are always higher than MSRP as well so other than stopping in to pick up the occasional ammo box or a pound of powder to try out, he doesn't get my business. I'm all for supporting the local guy, but when his prime directive seems to be fleecing customer, well...

I drive about 45min for my transfers now. $25 and no hassle. He's happy for the business and it's nice to get up off the desert floor an into the mountains, especially during the heat of the summer.

It may not be high to you but it is to me.

I guess it all depends on what your looking for, most of the stuff I sell has a 200.00 dollar tax stamp and a 6 month wait time.
