Buffalo Bore .357Mag's hunting?

I wanted to know if anybody is hunting with the Buffalo Bore .357Mag rounds; and if so:

1) Out of what gun? (Revolver; Semi-Auto, Rifle?)
2) What are you shooting at? (Hogs, Pheasants, Deer?) (and size)
3) Yardage?

I have hunted with a .357 mag with 158 grain loads and killed a doe at 70 yards with a shot to the vitals. I was using a Marlin lever action and the doe only ran about 30 yards before piling up. This year I bought the Buffalo Bore bullets and plan on using it this season. Since the standard 158 grain load worked well I don't foresee the buffalo bore rounds being a problem. I can't wait to try them. I expect them to be deer stoppers as I will only be using them in some of the thicker areas that I hunt and don't expect any shots over 40 yards.

I have first hand experience with the Buffalo Bore "Outdoorsman" 38+P providing full penetration on a double lung shot at about 15 yards from a 4" revolver. The doe didn't go far. I have no doubt the .357 loads would work fine.

Winchester Model 94 Trapper, 16" barrel , angle eject, 357 mag.

More than awhile back I bought a few boxes of Buffalo Bore 125 grain. From Texas hog to Rottweiler abandonments to coyote they have been a true and accurate round. under 100 yds they hit with authority.

No hunting experience, but put a few BB 158gr 357s through my 6" 686. They are advertised at 1475fps. My chrono showed them running more like 1500fps, so surely they are formidable. Not looking for the "is 357 enough for deer" debate, but I have no doubt that these would take a deer with a good shot (same can be said for all kinds of rounds).

What type of firearm are you shooting, which BB .357 loads are you considering and what will you be hunting? As for Pheasants, I'd seriously consider something else. In Wisconsin, where I live, it is illegal to shoot Pheasants with a rifle or handgun. Folks should check their own state regs before doing so.

Most reputable manufactures produce viable hunting ammo in .357. Problem is, most .357 ammo is not intended for deer and hogs. Get the proper ammo and make sure it shoots accurately outta your firearm and you should be good to go. While it is good stuff, there is nuttin' mystical about BB ammo, altho their price is a little hard to believe.

Yardage is more dependent on you, and your accuracy with the platform, than the ammo, especially in .357. Because of it's initial low velocity and energy, it is not a long range weapon. I've killed deer with .357s, .44s and .460s. I've always considered the .357 yardage outta a revolver similar to bow hunting. Outta a rifle or carbine I might push to a 100 yards.

I'd be shooting this out of an 18" rifle.. which makes it a very very different beast. It's not quite 30-30 but getting there.

From their website out of an 18" rifle:

a. Item 19A/20-180gr. Hard Cast = 1851 fps

That is flying! The slightly lighter hollow points though will be going 2100fps.!!

180 grain hard case is what I'm looking at probably for hunting.

I've used the 180gr hard cast on plenty of whitetail and mule deer out of a 4" ruger g100. All one shot at ranges from 15 - 70 yards. Nothing ran further than about 50yards before dying.

Just about any .357 158 SWC at 1,000 FPS will shoot through a deer.

Unless you hit the spine or brain, they will run until they bleed out and the brain runs out of oxygen, and then pile up DRT & kicking.

That's the way it works.

Hitting them harder with a 180 at 1,800 makes no difference.
It will not be a drop dead right there kill, unless you put it in the spine or brain.
