Just out of curiosity, and this has probably been asked before but when you build your AR's what did you use? I want to know each detail, what receivers, what parts kits, what barrels, etc... No bashing anyone's setup, I am just curious what people are matching with what.

if you're talking coolest, unobtanium stuff, then i would say:

magpul china doll lower
HK416 upper 10.4" on a noveske M249 barrel
geissele trigger
magpul stock and grip
special projects suppressor that QDs to a titan comp
a nightforce 1-4x NXS with daylight visible dot

of course, most of that doesn't exist

Noveske N4 recce w/ S&B Short Dot, Pmags, and many cases of ammo.

Nothing else compares as a general-purpose carbine.

rob, all the google hits for sdi bolt catch seem to point to your website. is that a normal product or a Travis special? they have a lefty version?

I find myself wondering about that bolt catch as well.

Go to brownells.com, and order their free AR catalog. (Or ALL of their free ones and pay $5 for their master catalog.) All kinds of stuff you never knew you needed. Just remember that the perfect rifle should have everything you need, nothing you don't. Over time you may change your mind and strip it down.

The best AR is the new LMT piston CQB modified with the new carbon barrel wrap which cools the barrel down and allows you to shoot for 6x as long or something like that.

We can bicker about sights (I like troys w/ and ACOG) but I don't think you can deny that the above rifle is the best AR out there for close quarters combat.

EDIT - I also prefer Magpul UBR stock, AAC blackout flash suppressor

it'll definitely be an ultimate one, because it will be the last thing you buy for a long time.

someone here has/had an AR that he put $6k into. I'd talk to him and see what he has.

Crap, that explains all the emails. :banghead:

Its a pre-production T&E piece that I got from Travis earlier this year. While it works well as a standalone piece, it really shines with the Redimag. Travis is now hooked up with Magpul as Magpul Dynamics and the rumor is that the BAD will be produced eventually, but anyone familiar with Magpul knows what "eventually" can mean.

The gun magazine I own says the LMT piston MSRP is $1999 and the barrel wrap is $600-900. It's an expensive gun for sure, but not as bad as many others.
