remington 700 ti action, lilja fluted #4, 27" long, rifle basix trigger (for weight savings over factory - they aren't better than a factory rem) set to 1.5#, chambered to 7 rum, talley lightweight rings, leupold 6x42 fx-3, butler creek flip-ups, bansner hi-tech stock, sims pad, pierceision shroud and pin, and the whole works cerakoted. the scope would be sent off to premier after dope was analyzed and sent in, and new reticle would align my actual data up to 600 yards, instead of a generic crosshair.

That sounds awsome.

I want a Winchester Model 70 stainless action that has been lightened, lapped, and trued with a 23 inch Shilen stainless barrel, custom express sights, and a barrel band. The sights zeroed for my primary load. Warne rings, Leupold 1.75 X 6 Scope, McMillan stock. Camouflage the whole thing scope and all. Set the trigger at 2 pounds and the chambering. 338 Winchester Magnum.

I want to build a Remington Ti Actioned light weight 6.5X284 Winchester. Flutted stainless barrel, McMillan light weight stock, 2# trigger.

I was really intrigued by Kimber's re-make of the old Mauser design. Light, slim, trim and simple. I'd love to see somebody do the same thing with a the basic Enfield action.

My ultimate rifle would be a 6 pound Enfield in .308. Barrel length would be 18". Needs interchangable 10 and 5 round magazines, with stripper clip slots. Good iron sights (Garand-style) are absolutely necessary. I really like the scout scope thing, but only if it has an illuminated reticle and is easily removable. Finish it off with a good trigger and some sort of sensible sling.

Make it cheap enough that I can buy two.

Oh, thread the muzzle and include a bayonet mount, just to torque off the antis. :neener:

Pre 64 Model 70 action with an overly heavy 6.5x55 barrel. Throw in any Zeiss scope with the #2 reticle and I'll be a happy man. Of course I'd have my standard GI canvas sling, but that goes without saying.

Winchester built my "ultimate rifle" about 120 years ago. The Model 1886. Mine would have a deluxe pistol-grip stock with a shotgun butt and fine checkering, a color-case-hardened receiver, and a button magazine. In 45/70 of course.

.45Guy,

You mean something like this:

6.5Swede1.jpg

Win M70 CRF Action
Fluted Obermeyer AMU contour barrel in 6.5x55
McMillan Prone Stock
Williams one-piece steel bottom metal
Jewell trigger
Tubb's Speed Lock firing pin
Badger 20MOA base

Holy crap, that would be it!!!! That's exactly as I imagined it. You're extremely lucky.

Good info!
I've got the 'R3' pad on the stock; 4.5" of eye relief; and a PAST Super Magnum recoil shoulder pad ( yeah, the 'pussy strap-on' unit :scrutiny: ).
I've already heard the best way to shoot it off the bench is with your body upright and the gun on enough sandbags to make sure you don't lean into it.
Got it.
When I get done with all this OT at work, I'll take it for a spin!
Sounds like it won't get shot too often... ;)

IF Robinson's XCR is as good as advertised - in a 6.8 with AFFORDABLE AMMO AND MAGS - hey, you said IDEAL ;) It's just my humble opinion, but for my own needs the 6.8 is the best of the .308, 7.62X39 and .223 all rolled into one.

Right now if I had to grab only one SHTF rifle, it would probably be
Krebs KTR-03S. What it loses in accuracy it makes up for in cheap ammo and mags and UTTER reliability in all conditions. I'm expecting nice check in a month and will be ordering one. Then I'll start looking at that XCR in earnest. If only 6.8 and mags were cheap and available! Oh, well.

I know next to nothing about the long range guns you guys are talkin' about but I don't think I'd be shooting much beyond 300 yards and a good AR platform in 6.8 would take a small deer out to that range. A stock Rem 700 in .308 or higher with a Leupold or Zeiss and even I could probably go out to 500 yards ;)

I already did. Legendary .270 performance with 1/2" groups using factory ammo. You can read about it here;

Over all cost was very low.

Used .270 LH Savage detachable mag rifle from Gun Broker $280.00
Hardware for internal box mag conversion 50.00
Stockade Money Saver stock with pillar bedding system 150.00
Aluminium trigger guard 19.00
Sharp Shooters Supply tactical bolt handle 40.00
Camo paint (Krylon matte Fusion) by me 15.00
Testors Dull Coat finish (5 coats) 10.00
Leupold scope mount base and rings 39.00

Total $603.00

Of course this does not include the cost of the 50mm 3.5x10 Leupold Vari X III as I already had it or the cost of my screw up when I broke a scope base screw off in the receiver. But over all I was pleased with the cost and the results. I have spent twice that on rifles that could not shoot half as well.
The Stockade stocks are fantastic! They equal or excel the McMillian or H&S in strength and quality. They include a full length aluminum bedding system from the front sling swivel to the pistol grip. I included an aluminum trigger guard (replacing the plastic one) in the build since one of the action screws secures thru the rear trigger guard hole. That allows me to put equal and constant torque on the bedding screws and contributes to the over all accuracy. I also skim coated the aluminum bedding blocks in the stock with bedding compound that allowed the pillars to form exactly to the receiver bottom. The barrel is free floated and the end result is a rifle that is truly neutral bedded. I have yet to find a load that will not shoot from this rifle. Sure makes load selection easy and shooting it fun.

Ultimate Rifle

Well I thought I had a good gun made up on a Rem used 700 s/a action with a Hart 24" barrel, mcmillan stock, and some other toys jewell, tubbs etc in 7mmwsm and it shoots under .250" at 100 my brother shot a three shot group and aced it inder.100" but I am humbled to see some of the guns on this thread, and I can't do what that beauitifull 6.5 284 did at 1000yards at 300yards some amazing rifles. but I did shoot a 200+ lb buck at 390yards.
