Building 7.62x39mm Upper

I just put together a model 1 barrel and bolt with a bushmaster A2 upper, I used the bushmaster BC and a model 1 bolt. The feed ramps on the barrel needed a pretty serious blending/polishing. The rounds were getting stuck at the tip between the lugs of the chamber. I'm set up for a dissipater, as such I figured out that with a standard FSB I need a longer front sight, the old one works but it's a little close being unscrewed for me. DMSP makes an extended post for 15 bucks that should fix that. All said and done I'm happy with the upper I assembled, good mags are a must (c-porducts) and if your using model 1 barrel a carful debur and polish of the feed ramps will go a long way.

Still waiting for my Ar Preformance barrel, really hopeful it is worth every bit of the wait, getting it with the full bolt carrier group as they give a nice discount for the package. BTW, unless you need something fancier order their 5/8s threaded flash suppressor as well.

Been shooting an older DPMS 20 inch upper non-M4 cuts for a few months now and mostly happy with that one.

I wish I would have known about AR Performance when I ordered my stuff from M1S. Don't get me wrong I'm happy with the upper I built with there products, but AR Performances prices and offerings look like greener pastures.

Happy day, got my AR Performance 16" middy barrel Friday and by Sunday morn it's mounted on a Les Baer slick side flat top upper with a YHM fold down front sight but the Eotech is the primary. I'm using a complete ARP bolt group cept I had a unused KNS fireing pin retaining pin so that got swapped.

Pulled the rubber bit out of the extractor, ground the tail of the spring smooth and polished to a mirror finish the part that slides over the cartridge rim but did not touch the hook. Then I took a Cratex wheel and using it like a file smoothed the ribs on the bolt carrier and ran it very oily.

All this fiddly work was worth it cause I ran though 50 rounds of Wolf HP black box without a hiccup, unlike my friend who fought his for the first 60 rounds of short stroking.

Only issues so far is the port door takes a lot of effort to close, hoping that a swap of doors will fix that. Also the ejector spring is too strong and all the cases are banging on the deflector, one coil less and I shouldn't have dings in my receiver or the reloadable brass. I've done it to two bolts already and they both pitch the brass in a 16 inch circle at two o clock.

So for what its worth my first impression is this barrel is a better made unit than my 20" DPMS 7.62x39, I'm a happy costumer.

P.S. I only shoot corrosive in a SKS.
