Hello all!

Yesterday I picked up a bulgarian makarov locally and feel like I slightly over paid but honestly I've wanted one most of my life and finally have one in hand.

Let me know what yall think.

Gave 400 OTD for pistol and 3 mags. Made in 1990 and looks damn near unfired.

You didn’t overpay. Certainly not given the condition.

The other day I was looking at an old THR thread where the member paid $825 for a minty non-import marked East German Mak. It was exactly what he wanted but, unsurprisingly, some people gave him grief for paying so much. It made me laugh because time has vindicated his purchase.

And because last week I paid $650 for a minty, import-marked EG.

Good pick up. My Mak is one of my very stoutest firearms. You'll be shooting it for decades.

I like to use an online inflation calculator at times to get an idea of the price of something in certain years. $400 for that Bulgarian Makarov is a good deal at today’s prices. I have had about 30 different Makarovs over the last 15 years and still have 10. Enjoy it !

That's a good purchase, and I'd say you did just fine price-wise.
Especially considering you got 3 mags along with.

Congratulations! Hope you enjoy it.

That's a beauty. I'd pay $400 (with three mags?) in a heartbeat. I bought one of those made in '88 when they came in as unissued surplus. You did very well.

Thanks for providing vindication for my recent purchase guys! I really do appreciate yalls insight. I'm happy to own it. I've always wanted one and just had to scoop it up. Does anyone have any suggestions for an iwb holster for a makarov? While I don't plan to replace my g19 or sig as a ccw I do enjoy the idea of it being an option.

Ya done good.

My first handgun was a CZ-52. I bought it in the parking lot of the city’s cathedral from a fellow I met on a forum. He offered me at the same time a mint Bulgarian mak still in the importer’s box, for $350. That was in 2008. I was a poor college student so that was too rich for my blood and I had to turn him down. I’ve often regretted not taking him up on the offer (because guns are awesome) but my point is, $400 for substantially the same thing in 2024 is not a bad buy.

Time flies.

Bulgarian Maks, I've spent $100 (gun store special sale, gun plus 1 mag), $139 (surplus, looked unfired (no barrel scuffing), with 2 mags serialized to the gun) and $179. All in the 2000 to 2005 time stretch. My brother has one, the others are gone, trade fodder. I only have a Baikal .380 left.

Practically, these days they are priced up where there are a lot of other good options, and there's not so much good reason to get a Makarov. My XDS is basically the same size, lighter, similar price, shoots 9x19, and is still supported by the manufacturer.

I think I paid $180.00 NIB for a Bulgarian Makarov but that was 2002 or thereabouts. Two magazines and a holster. But that was then when East German, Bulgarian, and Russian (with the adjustable sight) were all over the place. All that C&R surplus com bloc stuff was going for fire sale prices. I know, I bought a LOT of it. For a good Bulgarian Makarov today you did well.

With some humor I never knew I had to have a reason to buy any gun. By reason I would probably have 3-5 guns total. The Makarov has an appeal due to its simplicity, reliability, and history. My truck gun is a well worn Bulgarian Makarov. Would I recommend them to everyone, no.

Wait, you overpaid at $400?. Atlantic has these sometimes in totally pitiful shape, rust, pitting, broken grips, etc for way north of $400. I would jump and click my heels if I found one that looked good like that for $400. I've wanted one for a good while and wanted it to basically be exactly what you have but have seen them north of $550. Good find, always hoped to come across one. Like people often say, gun shows ain't what they used to be. The Bulgi Mak being the type of thing you'd have no problem finding in the late 90's early 00's for $200 +/-

Crossbreed may work for your IWB holster. Nice gun.

Nice finish for a surplus gun.

I’m certainly no expert, but from the comments here, sounds like you did well.

Good luck with your new gun!

I might have out done you Robk13.

The one in the box looks new, unfired, and the internals still caked in cosmoline. $400 back in January. Been wanting one for nostalgia purposes as my dad had an East German one when I was a kid and I had a Bulgarian in my early 20’s. You know how you always want the guns from your youth. Then the one on the right came in February. $325. I didn’t need it but thought ef it! Why not? I think I have a problem. I hope you enjoy it. They are fun guns to shoot and a classic.

Oh. CZ82 holsters do fit Makarovs if you have one lying around.
