So I've been experimenting with various surplus ammo's looking for the best match to my m39's, for gong ringing. Even have a little book logging all the different results for each.
Factoring cost and availability, along with grouping, and poa/poi performance, I've decided to buy a hunk of Bulgarian heavy yellowtips.
Of all the surps I've shot, Yugoslav hb was the best, but I can't find any. Second place goes to Hungarian LB for tightest groupings. Most just 1/16th's to 1/8th's over the 2 inch @ 100 yards marker. BUT, it has gotten a bit pricey in the last few weeks. So the Bulgarian gets the nod.
Here is a pic of this past weekends typical performance from the winner. This is 1955 Bulgarian heavyball, leadcore, yellowtip. Rifle is a 1942 unissued B-barrel, M39.
Group is 2-3/8 inch @ 100 yards, off my hand resting on a sandbag.
