Bulk gun cleaning cloth for guns and bores

About ten years ago the place I worked changed names and I ended up with a case of (50) beach towels. I cut these up for gun cleaning. I have finally started to run my supply dry. Does anyone here buy cloth material in bulk (maybe by the yard) for gun cleaning?

JoAnne's Fabrics. Get their cotton flannel, buy by the yard and cut your cleaning patches.

Thank you for the advice. Just ordered from them. The beach towels weren't exactly lint free and they certainly weren't cotton. I'm sure the cotton flannel will be a lot nicer. I spent as much time cleaning out lint as I did cleaning the guns.

You can get sheets, blankets and old t shirts for real cheap at Salvation Army or Goodwill.....

Try a garage or yard sale. Just watch out for what you say to the ladies running the sale. Years ago a friend and I were hitting garage sales. He was going to buy several baby receiving blankets. He made the mistake of telling the lady he was going to use them to dry his car when he washed it. She pulled the blankets out of his hands and said “you are not going to use my babies blankets to clean your car with”.

Harbor Freight sells cloth shop towels that work dandy for wiping down firearms, not expensive at all. Yeah they are from China so there’s that...

I buy heavy cotton flannel several yards at a time. Might be white or most any light color. I need several sizes from .17 to 12 ga.

All my old t shirts end up getting cut up for cleaning rags and patches. Found out some of them were not 100% cotton when I used some for catching freshly cast bullets coming out of the molds, polyester and 600° lead don't get along real well

Flannel sheets at yard sales, one of those wheel cutter things the ladies use for cutting quilt pieces with. You can easily make a years supply in an evening.

Bounty brand paper towels get a lot of gun cleaning jobs on my workbench.

Those blue paper shop towels work pretty well, and they cut up into first pass bore patches.
Then cut flannel.
I have an oily red shop rag for wipe down; and an oiled shaving brush.

I use these rags from Intex, below, which I get from Lowe's. They're T-shirt soft, but very strong. Also generously sized; I cut these in half for use on my bench. They're not single-use like paper towels are, but they are cheap enough that you can use 'em that way if/when you want to.

Around here it's my old t-shirts. Either I need to clean my guns more often or buy more guns to clean to ever have a need to go out and buy material especially for gun cleaning.

T-shirts, old socks, heck I have even used old underwear but cloth diapers are the best.

If you need cleaning rags, ask my brother. He's 85, rarely shoots any more, but has 2-3 large garbage bags full of rags. When I was helping him clean out his garage I asked what he wanted to do with the rag bags. He decided to keep ALL of them, "just in case".

Shop towels, 50 pack at Chinese Freight for $12. My underwear, shirts, and socks cost more than that. Shop towels have been winning out for awhile.
