California is apparently introducing new requirements on semi-auto with "bullet button". Can someone tell me what a "bullet button" is?

The current version of bullet buttons is a way to sell modern sporting weapons with detachable magazines by turning them into non-detachable magazine as per the law.

The law defines permanent as requiring a tool. So people made a magazine release that requires something smaller than your finger to press a recessed button.

What this enabled was the sale of all the typical 'assault weapon' target legislation because the primary feature combined with any other they hated was detachable magazines in semi automatics.

The goal of this legislation is to re-ban AR-15s and most other modern firearms that are semi automatic.
This is by redefining what a detachable magazine is. No longer will semi autos that you must press a recessed button with a 'tool' be exempt to semi automatic weapon bans.
Since that was the only way such guns could be sold in the state, it is intended to mean nothing with a pistol grip (or other banned features) and detachable magazine can be sold in the state.

Since many military, police, and tactical designs since the 1940s have had these features, and most semi autos since the 1980s, it is intended to ban most such firearms from ownership.
That is what an 'assault weapon' ban is. A trip back in time, for the peasant, while the enforcers can retain use of modern equipment.

Lots of pictures come up in a web search, but this

is the essence.

Don't even get me started on this nonsense...

A bullet button requires a 'tool' be inserted into the mag release in order for the mag to drop free.

Bullet buttons where implemented because people could 'change mags to quickly'. (Scary!)
Bullet buttons are now being banned because a person could 'change mags to quickly'. (Scary again!)

we are so backwards over here its sickening.
