I've reloaded rifle shells since the 60's but never pistol, I now have a S&W mod 25 in 45 colt. My son has a 45 also, he has a set of dies but always bought his bullets. I want to buy a bullet mould as I have about 80 lbs of lead colected from cowboy action shoots at our club. What I need to know is what kind of good sizer, luber should I get that works easy. I am buying a lee 252 gr semi wad cutter mould. thanks

The Star Machine Works luber/sizer is a good one. They're being made by Magma Eng. now. The older ones can be found on eBay and Gunbroker.

RCBS or Lyman for a conventional luber/sizer using conventional stick type grease lube.
They are about the only game in town anymore for a reasonable price, and are exactly the same machine with a different color paint jod. RCBS & Lyman dies & top punches are interchangable.

If you got the Lee tumble-lube mold that has a whole bunch of shallow grooves instead of conventional grease grooves, you will have to use Lee Liquid Alox and thier push-through sizer.

Star sizers are very nice but a bit pricey. Best bet RCBS lube/sizer and a heating plate for lube. The green lube from RCBS is ok,but it attracts dust like a magnet and melts at a relatively low temp.
My self I use Rooster Red from Zambini or at least I think that's the company' name

Instead of a heater plate, I just use a heat-gun to warm things up to get started.

The cast iron sizer frame holds heat for a very long time once you get it up to operating temperature.

I would say watch eBay for a used Lyman. I picked one up for $40. Not too much invested up front in case you find out your not into it.

Ya the star is awesome but really pricey. a used lyman 400 or an rcbs lubrisizer is ok. if you want to go cheap the lee sizer works good. I kinda like the lee liquid alox

Before you invest a lot of money, try a Lee Sizer. They come with Lee Liquid Alox and cost ~12 dollars.

They also work. Fast. And well, so far as I can tell. Unless you're an exceptional shot, you'll never be able to tell... and even then, I doubt it.

The Lee liquid alox works very well. I use it on Lyman 454424 bullets cast of 50/50 ww/pb. I don't size them as they drop at .454 and work very well in 45 colt up to 950 fps. Saves a lot of time and labor, should work just as well with any Lee mould.
