I'd been looking for a mold for .515 diameter bullets around 350 to 375 gr for my Smith Carbine without paying an arm and a leg.
I was watching Wend at the range on the Outdoor Channel and Larry Potterfield was showing how he modified a Lee mold and it was a neat simple idea.
I picked up a double cavity Lee mold in .515 450gr took off the sprue plate and set it up in the mill and took off .180 which eliminated the frist driving band and grease groove leaving two of each. Put the sprue plate back on and didn't even have to shorten the screw. Cast some really nice bullets that came out right at 365gr. Just what I wanted. I also noted that if I took off another .180 eliminating the second driving band and groove I would have bullets around 280gr with one drive band and one groove and would have to modify the screw or deepen the hole for it.
Thought some of you other Smith owners might be interested in this.
