"Bullseye Reloads" Banned at State Range

Went to the state operated range today and there's a sign saying Bullseye Reloads are banned. The RO said that someone shooting them had his Glock blow up while shooting them. At first I thought he meant no reloads using Bullseye powder, but I guess there's a company by that name that sells reloads. Heard the guy who had the kaboom messed his hands up pretty badly and the gun blew apart.

The RO said he wouldn't be surprised if they don't ban all reloads at this range because of it. He's up there in years (believe retired LEO) and a bit crotchety, but it wouldn't surprise me if the DEM pulls something like that (they operate the range.) I told him I won't be shooting much there anymore if that happens as I shoot mostly reloads. He was just fine with that. He doesn't want to deal with accident reports or people in adjacent lanes catching shrapnel and suing the state. A bit extreme, but we'll see. I like shooting there even though I have two private ranges I can shoot at.

Seems to me that Glock use to say due to the polygonal barrel in their guns leading badly that the warranty was no good if you shot reloads in their guns.

That may have changed by now, or maybe that feller din't get the memo!!

I bought Storm Lake cut rifling barrels for both my Glocks. They were drop-in and work perfectly.

99% of what I shoot is my own lead bullet reloads.

I agree. That was the thoughts of one crotchety old range officer, hopefully cooler heads will prevail. This range is somewhat of a conundrum, a state operated firing range in a Blue state. I'm sure there are many that would like to see it closed altogether. The head of the DEM even backed some kind of bogus back-door gun control bill (don't recall exactly which one, there were so many. Maybe the one banning lead ammo for hunting?)

Anyway, if they ban all reloads, they won't be seeing much of me at all.

The indoor range closest to me bans reloaded ammunition AND steals your brass. One trip was all I'll make there!

I really don't understand the attitude of some people who relegate ALL reloads to the status of junk. I would suppose that I've probably reloaded something like 500,000 rounds of ammo during my lifetime, and that's about all I shoot if it's not .22. I can't even remember the last time I bought any new factory ammo. I even reload for all my machine guns too.

I've never (knock on wood) had a bad issue with reloads, mine or others. A failure to fire a couple of times but no kabooms, but then I'm very careful and pay attention to what I'm doing. I suppose not ALL reloaders are so careful.

I agree, with a policy like that one, I'd look elsewhere to shoot.

I told him that I would take all that hit the floor . He just pushed all the brass beside me . When I left I had a nice bag of brass , mostly 9mm , some .45 & .380 .

Hey! I thought I was the only one they do that for.

I came home with about three times as much 9mm brass as I shot the last time I was there. The time before that it was about twice as much 38 Special.

That made the $20 dollar range fee not sting as much . I felt safe shooting there unlike another indoor range that is cheaper and closer to me . You probably know the one I am talking about since we are both in Chesterfield .

I've shot many remanufactured loads through my guns, 0 issues so far. In fact, I've had more issues with commercial ammo than most reman ammo brands I've found.

The range I mentioned collects brass, bags it, and sells it to reloaders. (Which they won't let shoot at their range)

DEM = Department of Environmental Management. State is RI. The range is at the Great Swamp Wildlife Management Area.

They check your shooting bag on the way in and out. They also charge $5 per box of ammo to shoot your own even if they don't stock ammo for your gun. Got to buy their target too. (For safety reasons, LOL)

There may be a reason I was the only one at the range!

In many years of shooting my own reloads, the only kaboom I have ever witnessed was a factory Winchester shotgun shell. Stuff happens. Get over it.

Funny you mention that. I was at that range today to shoot some clay birds and I had one factory Winchester shell that was not loaded properly. The brass cut into the hull. Threw it in the dud box, didn't want to chance shooting it.

The early Glocks in 40 are famous for "KaBooms" with reloads because of un-supported chambers. It has been remedied with newer Glock 40s.

Not really. There is a really nice range south of town but they have such a waiting list that they aren't even taking new reservations. The other ranges in the area are similar: Indoor, $25-$30 to shoot, fees to bring your own ammo, have to buy their targets, etc.

Fortunately about 50% of Oregon is public land so I just head to the woods to shoot for free.

One of my local Gander Mountains has an indoor range. I went there once when I was a newb to get my carry permit. Havent been back. They inspect all ammo and only allow factory new. I have since found more friendly indoor spots (no steel ammo is the only restriction) and joined an outdoor orginization.
