Given the ATF's recent 180 on bump stocks, I contacted Gunbroker to learn what policy they have on them. It's been weeks now and the only response I get is a repeated "We'll get back to you."

I was looking around a local pawn/gun shop the other day and saw several bump stocks @ $500.

Just a question, are you trying to get Gunbroker to prevent sellers from selling them before the ban takes effect?

Gunbroker has pretty much been caveat emptor. Ebay is a bit more proactive and prohibits sales of firearms but I have seen quite a few receivers with and without barrels up for sale and I would bet that at least some of those sales and deliveries actually occurred. A lot of the folks selling this stuff on ebay are pickers and such and do not understand firearms laws. Some of the stuff is considered antique under the law but some are not so clear, especially on .22 LR models, lever actions, or things like a Krag receiver where production overlaps the antique determining deadline.

You see receivers on eBay? I can't persuade it to let me sell stripper clips and ballistic plates, totally legal items they have somehow flagged as Deadly Military Stuff!!!!

I have seen barreled actions simply listed as barrels. I know it’s not legal, but what I am unclear on is what penalty there is, and where the penalty would be levied. Would it be that both shipper and receiver are in hot water? Since bumpstocks are soon to be illegal as NFA, I know that simple possession is criminal.

In a word: no. I am wondering if anything will happen to my account there if I list mine.

The clock is running on the whole bumpstock legality but currently it is legal to sell under federal law. Some state laws have been passed that make them illegal already. Whether Gunbroker will allow sales of these to go through probably depends on how the listing is posted, what automated software blocks exist for sale using keywords, and whether someone complains about it.

The closest thing I can think of is like new state limits on magazine sizes or ammunition sales, I think that a lot of sellers try to dump the legal liability on the buyer of the magazine but not sure you can actually do that. Long arm statutes that reach beyond state boundaries is a complicated area of the law. In this case, a serious NFA issue might arise so I am guessing but believe Gunbroker probably would block the posting if they became aware of it.

Specifically, re bumpstock posting, I doubt that they would deactivate your membership but they might nix the posting. The closer to the deadline, the more likely that they have already more or less blocked sales of such as the completion and transfer of such might carry it over the deadline into illegal sales territory. I doubt Gunbroker wants the legal exposure.

FWIW, I just checked Gunbroker and about ten postings came up. Gunbroker does not have an auto ban in place for the term bumpstock. I found a bunch more using the term slidefire.

One can list them on GB, but I can't imagine bump stocks are selling very well, wherever they're listed.

The ones on armslist locally aren't selling.

It's like musical chairs at this point - people are trying to unload their stocks to the unwitting before the turn in date.
