I guess 3X-9X-40 is acceptable as it is listed on Amazon. They got it right on the 4.5-14X42. It should be 3-9X40. 3X9X40 doesn't make sense.

Unless Burris quality has gone way downhill that is a very good scope. They used to sell at about $200 and IMO it is at least as good a scope as the discontinued $300 Leupold VX-2 in a 3-9X40. Burris has discontinued that scope and I've seen several discounted heavily over the last 2 years or so. But that is the best price I"ve seen.

I'd buy it and use it in confidence.

I have never had one of these & in all honesty don't need one right now. Reading all the praise these scopes get on this forum makes me want one though & the deal is still there.

I am not trying to be difficult or argue but I do have a question. Why does 3-9x40 not make sense?

I believe he’s talking about the way it’s written/worded. Not the numbers but the Xes and hyphens and by’s.

In all honesty I do mean the numbers. I'm not a grammar nazi (that's not my thing)i. I'm just trying to make sure I understand right. I'm just seeking clarity.

I'd like to try out the 6.5-20÷50, as I already have 4.5-24×42 in both the ff2 and droptine model's. I'm in the process of upgrading all of my optics.

I haven't actually had it out shooting yet, but I replaced the 4.5-14 on my 308 with a 6.5-20, and just poking around with it I'm pretty impressed. It's not as nice as the Viper HST I had with a similar magnification range, but in no way would I say the Vortex is worth 5-8x what it goes for over the Burris, at least to my eyes.

You were responding to @jmr40 who said "It should be 3-9X40. 3X9X40 doesn't make sense"

I believe jmr40 was saying that the GRAMMAR or the way it's written doesn't make sense. He wants "three to nine power by 40mm" to be written "3-9X40". Not "3X9X40". THAT's what he was saying doesn't make sense. Not the scope or the power configuration.

It did for a long time, but a my eyes get older, not the rest of me, it's harder to see especially at longer ranges. Can't shoot it if you can't see it.

Used to be able to see bullet holes on 9x at 200 yds can't now, most of my shooting is 300 meters, but it's practice for hunting. Granted 3x is likely better in thick cover but I hunt open corn fields where 500 isn't unheard of do higher mag works better for me.

That makes sense to me. Different tools for different purposes. Most of the places I have hunted a deer might pop out of the woods right on top of you so I have always favored lower power on the low end. Unless one has access to a clear cut or a large field most hunting here is done in the woods. I usually wind up on top of the ridge looking down into a wooded bottom. There have been exceptions but between the woods & hills, etc. I can't usually see further than a couple of hundred yards if that. It stinks when you look through your scope sat on its lowest setting & all you can see is brown.

Okay, i just reread your post & realized how dense I've been. Hopefully I will pay closer attention from now on.

BTW I just ordered the 3-9x40. I don't really need it right now but I will use it at some point.

The deal is still there. Mine was delivered yesterday. I spent some time comparing it to my 11 year old Vortex Diamondback. The glass seems comparable between the 2. The Vortex seems a bit brighter but it is 3.5-10x50 whereas the Burris is 3-9x40 so it should be. Considering I paid somewhere between $175-200 for the Vortex 11 years ago & the Burris was $109 dollars now I believe this scope is an excellent value. I need to get it on a rifle & play with it. I don't really have a centerfire host for it right now but I'm thinking I might take a lesser scope off an old Glenfield model 25 & put the Burris on it for a while.
