Remember, it doesn't exist until you can make a legitimate purchase at the gun store or on the internet.

I remember some threads on other forums (maybe here too) about people selling some current guns they own to finance the upcoming ACR...........LOLOLOL!!! :D

From a business perspective, I wonder which is the smarter move?

Keep producing a well-liked older product that is currently seeing incredible demand and selling every unit you can produce

OR

Try to get your next-generation product out there before the competition can release their next-gen product and hope that the same insatiable demand for ARs carries over into the next gen product?

The ACR and SCAR both have tremendously high expectations to fullfill. I can't think of a single other rifle or rifles coming out around the same time with so much anticipation behind them. I know I am eagerly awaiting the ACR.

Easy Both. Both companies have enough product line to keep them going if either rifle fails to gain a sizeable market share. Its win win for both companies however, Magpul is more at a disadvantage. The ACR is their first rifle and they are outsourcing alot to Bushamaster. That could either help or cripple them. I sure hope that both rifles nail those expectations AND their is no AWB II.

They really dropped the ball on this one by pushing back the date. If there is a new AWB, then Magpul/Bushmaster had better hope that their product is significantly better than the SCAR and can win them military contracts, or the project will tank from lack of civilian sales.

Just for notice on some of the additions they have been working on: these are from the Louisville NRA show this past week. Apparently, all with production molds, so pretty close to the final model.

Darn, that's a shame I've been itching to add an ACR to my collection. Still I had a feeling it would be a while before I could get my hands on one, the idea that it would be released this year seemed a little far fetched to me, I never really bought into the idea. Which is why I went ahead an ordered a Sig 556 the other week, I wanted something new and wasn't gong to hold my breath for the ACR.

Lets just hope there are no radical gun law changes between now and the time the ACR does finally make it to the market.

Well Bushmaster/Magpul better hope there won't be any new legislation comming. I have a feeling the Democrats are going to pick up seats across the board and will have more free reign to make any gun legisation they please. If nothing comes our way in terms of new legislation, this is a good thing for me. Gives me more time to save up my pennies for something whiz bang cool.

That black ACR with the PRS stock is exactly the variant I want. Knowing the demand and my luck, there will probably be a waiting list.

Well... I cannot say that I am shocked...
:D And this time I'm with you. Magpul is involved...its out when its out. You still can't even get the UBR yet. I'll buy an acr but I expect it will be 2010.

Can't say I'm surprised.

They are going to miss the pre-November EBR buying frenzy!
They should release a couple hundred of them now to "beta testers" for half price :D

I was thinking more in the terms of "Do I devote production capability of a rifle that is selling like hotcakes now, despite tons of competition to a rifle that MIGHT sell like hotcakes and have little or no competition?"

I would by one in a second. They took everything that is "wrong" with the AR platform and made a fully modernized update. The ability to rapidly change caliber as well is a huge plus. They would be foolish not to put this on the market as it will put a huge dent in AR15 sales.

I also don't think the Democrats will press for more gun control right now. Most of the Democrats elected in 2006 when they took control of Congress were yellow-dog dems, pro gun rights and fiscally conservative. Jon Tester and Jim Webb are good examples and they will NEVER vote for another AWB.

I have no information on this one way or the other, but I suspect that the barrel latching mechanism is of insufficient strength, and BM is evaluating how to improve that.

I doubt that, honestly. Those interrupted threads are pretty strong, and just looking at it, it appears beefier than the lockup on the AUG, which is quite strong enough thankyouverymuch.

To say nothing of the fact that masada 001 has some obscene number of rounds through it, and isn't even made out of the definitive materials.

This attitude is usually a good thing though. It means they are squashing any bugs and thouroughly testing it before shipping it out. I'd rather wait another 2 years and get a quality product than get a junk-pile now.

I don't like how Bushmaster has their name all over the ACR/Masada. They may be manufacturing it but it is really still Magpul's weapon. I just hope Bushmaster doesn't screw it up. I really want one but I couldn't care less for Bushmaster. I wonder if how the Masada and the SCAR will compare in accuracy, and reliability?
